  • Ok it feels like revenge were real people are actually suffering. Folks in gulags are probably suffering indeed, but there there are other ways of making up for doing wrong.

    I agree, sending real human labor may sound not ok, even if it's not in gulag. But what about reparations? Could be in different form, but something that has real value in dollars.

    I believe that things should be fair. That's why we have justice system and courts with judges. Fairness and justice should be and is at the core of every society. Vast majority of societies have written laws, there are consitutions etc which help to achieve that. Obviously not always these laws are respected, but in general they help to keep society organized, developing and healthy.

    And something similar should be for the international cases, but that is much harder to achieve in practice because of differences in culture, history etc.

  • I'm sure they look at Nazi Germany that way, but the thing is do they look at their country today like that as well? Not historically. Cause I get a feeling that a lot of white leftist Americans actually hate their country today because of the past. Do Germans hate their country in it's current shape and form beacuse of the past or just it's historical version?

  • if I'm being honest if I had prisoners of war of a country that attacked my country killing many people and destroying many things, I think it would be kind of fair to have them to rebuild my country.

    I guess one could argue "it depends" though.

    I'm not sure but USSR probably took many German prisoners of war and had them work in gulags? Wouldn't be surprised. To be fair Germany attacked USSR, and killed many people there. I guess we could look at the numbers and take many factors into consideration if we wanted to estimate "fairness" of that.

  • I called out white Americans in a different context if you read the post again. This was second part of post when I talk about something else that I thought about, comparing white Americans and Germans shitting on their own caountry. It wasn't the context of conducting the political debate. In this context in my original post there are only Nixon, Kennedy and word "gentlemen" in general brought up. It's you who expanded context by not specifying society or country when you mentioned 1800s in later comment, I responded adequately.

    It's worth mentioning that there is no such thing as bastion of equal representation. Inequalities are everywhere, it's just a matter of size.

    I agree that 1800s bad for many people, but 200s were bad in a different way for other people in a different place, although maybe the scale was smaller. Should we make make philosphers like Socrates or Aristiotle a taboo topic because rich Greeks had African slaves? Same thing with Ancient Rome. You can taboo everything by having that way of thinking. 1800s are not special in this regard.

    Also, from the beginning I only wanted to discuss the WAY those two people speak with each other, the WAY the debate, despite thir skin color or nationality. I wouldn't care if they were black, yellow or whatever. It's just a good example of the WAY they speak and I specifically mentioned that in the title. But for some reason you and users from the photo that were commenting keep drifting to other things and opening up completely new topics.

  • The thing is 1800 is not just slavery and America was not the only place in the world that existed in that time. Believe it or not US is just about 6% of total land mass and 5% of global population. There were no black slaves in Poland, does that mean I can't talk about how political discourse was conducted here? Similarly in other countries. You want to make conducting a political discourse a taboo because of slavery in America?

    I can imagine even more than 9% not proud, but it doesnt mean they don't like / hate their own country. They have indifferent attitude, no love, no hate I would suppose. Similar to everywhere in the world. Although actually some first generation immigrants could actually hate the country and society. This is what we see in european countries with immigrants who do terrorist attacks.

    So I'm guessing his parents are russian immigrants. Might be wrong of course, that's my guess though.

    No, on github he says "worse off now than under communism", so he says 77% Czechs believe they country is worse off now. So it looks like he wants to prove that majority of Europeans want to go back to old system, which he uses as example of how great communism was for people. But yeah, the article is from 2019 and some stats he takes are from as far as 2011, so quite old.

    That article and these percentages is complete bs. I can tell you firsthand since I'm living in Poland. Poland is deveoping in about similar rate as other countries from that post communist block. And people are much better and happier. The guy who wrote that article writes for diplomaticpost.co.uk which apparently is some commies publishers nest in UK, so not surprising. Lies.

    I would say these percentages were correct in early 1990s, where those countries basically collapsed, there was huge unemployment, there were no businesses running, corruption, small amount people who had connections in communist party stole all the capital (95% was state owned - land, production facilities, residential buildings, actually every building, farmlands, healthcare, education etc etc) that was built with hands of entire society through the years and was a common property. These folks now are richest folks Polish people. That transition was far from clean and fair.

    Things are a bit better now, cause even though some folks had an unfair advantage in the beginning by stealing from society, they were many times unqualified to manage a capital and some of them just wasted it. Though still majority of capital is in the hands of those early "wild west" stealers I would say and also western big corporations who also got hands on all that capital which was sold to them by the early governments which were run by former communists. But there are new companies that were created and built solely by clever ideas and hard work and they bring hope. And first and foremost actually even though the capital was distributed unfairly, those people still need to bring value out of it and produce high quality products and services because otherwise somebody else will do it, so the society still wins. That's the beauty of competition.

    I could go on, it's a long story. In general the story of polish transition from the old system I see as good people vs evil people. Those who want good for society and people around them vs those who think only about themselves. And it keeps going like that today as well cause the same people are still in the today's government and government is tighlty coupled with big capital in Poland because of 1990s transition where everything started.

In Poland it's reintrudction. In USA it would be introduction.

    I am aware that there are plenty of leftists in west who think communist is good because it's in opposition to current status quo and they always want to fight with something and it's also in opposition to conservatives thinking. However from what I'm seeing on ther internet folks like that usually don't know what they are talking about, they rarely stop and think what ideas they preach really mean deeply and lead to in long term. I'd say people who "like" communism in west are 90% teens and young adults. They need to direct their young rebellion energy somewhere to fight status quo. And most probably they grow out of it within few years.

    On the other hand, people in Russia and China have communist and collectivism ideas deeply rooted in their minds, these ideas have been with them for generations. The state makes sure that society sees communism as a good and rightful system. To achieve this, it relies on a massive propaganda machine that operates on every level. People are raised with the belief that collectivism and the subordination of the individual to the common good are what brought the country development and prosperity. These people study it, study their "history" and read books about it.

    Essays on dessalines page are very solidly written, he has a lot of knowledge about these ideas. It would be much easier to write like that for a russian born (actually I'd say he is russian born but lived in USA or UK cause his english is very good, could even be born in USA but had russian parents, there are millions of russian immigrants in US) than western. He 100% is not American, cause he pretty much shits on USA big time.

  • What do you mean? I live in Poland, that frontline is pretty close to me. I keep up with the situation there. The war is no taboo here. People discuss it daily. Russians progress of their "special military operation" is extremely slow. 500 square km gained over the last year at the cost of few hundred thousand men who died.

    And As a proof to my suggestion about the Devs I linked main developer GitHub page where he spreads love for the communism and USSR.

  • Something has to fill up the hole waiting to be filled up. There is a big need for anti-woke reddit-type discussion, in old forums like style, searchable with google, without character limit.

    Reddit is being built for 20 years and only now it turned profit. I don't see how there could suddenly a reddit direct competitor would be born. I don't know how the future looks like, but I surely love to see the reddit stock market downfall and their user base shrinking.

  • If USA wants a deal with Russia, I only wonder what can they offer that Europe cannot. They have bigger energy market that's one thing. But USA has it's own resources, will they want to buy oil and gas from Russia in big quantities? They also can't make Russia too strong if they for example want to give them some high tech. Cause Russia will always (?) have better relationship with China than with US (will they?) and if there is 3WW, in current world I think we all agree on the fact that Russia pairs with China against NATO. What else can they offer? I guess keeping supplying Ukraine with military equipment is also some kind of lever. US could just hide this fact from the public. There is also a matter of sanctions but how big of an impact do they have on Russia in reality?

    And how does China fits in this?
