  • Honestly? I think for most they're too far deep in the right-wing Matrix to be able to tell truth from lies. Many people don't fully understand just how these people live in a completely alternate reality than the likes of you and me.

  • It has immediate impact and they cannot lie about the giant numbers in their face while they pump. Even the dumbest of people can grasp this.

  • While my own parents weren't helicopter parents in the traditional sense, I was around adults more than most kids much of my childhood and that was both good and bad. For childhood it was harder because my maturity level relative to my peers was much higher. I expected peers to behave like the adults in my life and with reason and maturity and found neither. On the other hand it was an investment into adulthood and I had dodged A LOT of things other people did not.

  • It's okay because they clearly earned it. Merit based society /s

  • And just to add, I don't mean to say that worry and anxiety aren't useful states of mind -- they can help you prepare for uncertainty in the future, but it HAS to be kept in check or it will control you instead of being a signal to action as I think was intended.

  • By all means, after you.

(all take note: 1 month old account, probably right-wing bait bot).

  • Touch grass.

No, seriously. I know most people use this as an insult but in this case I think there is a lot of benefit to re-balancing your time and getting offline. As a general rule, the further away the turmoil, the less impact you can actually have on its outcome. So why build up anxiety over something that is limited to your ability to control? Take that anxiety and put it in your immediate world. Your home, your physical health (diet, meditation, sleep, exercise). Get new hobbies like learning a musical instrument, go out on hikes. Find locla community.

I get one may not wish to bury their head in the sand but you need to strike a balance. If you still want to get active, then go to protests and join local political communities that align with your beliefs. It helps a lot. Focus on what you have more agency over and you'll feel better. Things like diet and exercise and getting out into nature all directly reduce anxiety and improve mood; that's a fact.

  • I did! Pretty good interview, as well as the one he did with John Favreau. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I have flashbacks to Fetterman that I'm still traumatized by lol

  • I appreciate the links, thanks! This is pretty much what I've heard and nothing I see as a complete deal-breaker. Some of what I see there tends to be somewhat reasonable:

n his posts, he said all police are bastards, and rural White Americans "actually are" racist and stupid, reported CNN. He also responded to a 2013 post about asking people from other races questions.

As someone who grew up rural and white, I can see where he's coming from and how he'd come to that conclusion.

  • Yeah that doesn't jive anymore in the era of smartphones and social media unfortunately.

Parents are overworked in increasing wealth inequality.

School becomes a necessary daycare. Less time with parents, sadly. More time learning bad habits from peers.

Combine with easily access internet access. And if parents are strict they're accused also of being helicopter parents bubble-wrapping their kids from reality. Connect the dots. Most saying it's easy aren't actually parents themselves.

  • Google says GenX and Boomers, mostly.

Millennial are raising alpha mostly now.

  • I probably wouldn't honestly out of laziness/time, money, knowing I'm not an actual nazi, and that it's easily hidden under a shirt.

But if it became low-hanging fruit as I'm running for office then sure.

I want to know if he actually engaged in nazi rhetoric or action. This tattoo? It's a stretch.

  • Oh thanks!

    This?

I see it now that it's been connected, but I genuinely still would not see it if I was a Marine grunt in my 20s. Just cool skull and crossbones kinda thing probably. Equally as close to pirate stuff.

  • Doubt he was a war historian back when he was in the Marines though.

    Also I'm honestly not getting:

    from:

  • Maybe we shouldn't spread rumors then if it's a struggle to memorize a name in the headline or even know what the content was that was allegedly so disturbing...?

  • What was disturbing on his reddit account, specifically?

Regarding his tattoo, I regretfully wouldn't have known either had someone pointed it out. They act like it's a swastika but I guarantee most people if they saw his tattoo wouldn't know what it was. I can see a silly Marine in his twenties doing something dumb like that and just picking it out of a book because it "looked cool," so I just need more than that personally. As soon as it was brought to public attention, he had it covered it up so seems reasonable. In my younger years I thought all the German stuff was cool. I played WWII games, listened to Rammstein, and never really connected the dots until later. I kind of get the same impression from Platner -- also why are you misspelling his name when it's in the headline? I see this done a lot by right-wing operatives. Hope it's just an innocent mistake.

I mean could he be another Fetterman? I guess anything is possible, but what other choice do we have?

  • I agree with your position that even the most popular candidate we've had in a long time -- Obama -- most likely would not have won that election, but we cannot know for sure. What we do know is that if you're up against stacked odds, then you need to maximize -- over-perform -- with the quality of your candidate.

I voted Harris. She was better than Trump in every conceivable way no doubt -- and yes, including on Gaza and most certainly Ukraine, Climate Change, LGBTQ+ rights, etc., -- but she was still just an average candidate. Can't have average against stacked odds of billionaires putting their weight on the scales of democracy.

The only persons I think could've won that is probably 2016 Bernie, or Michelle Obama.

If Harris wants to run again in the Democratic Primaries, then sure, go for it. I hope we have lots to choose from. But honestly, I'd rather Michelle run.

  • I think Europa because if I remember right it's one of the most likely spots for life?

  • I thought 10,000 Trumps theory was Trump is a useful figurehead, a lightning rod of a sort for the 10,000 lobbyists controlling him behind the scenes. Hence all the contradictions. He just parrots the highest bidder in the moment. Israel, Russia, Bannon, Kushner, Saudis, Musk, etc.
