  • I mostly use it to monitor individual feeds for chatty, talkradio-esque mp3 files that I then download and play from my personal devices. I've taken to calling them "podcasts" ;)

  • Thanks! Knowing I have paid thousands out of pocket over the past 15-20 years for fillings, crowns, root canals, wisdom teeth, etc., to me, $100 genuinely feels like a miracle even though I know I'm lucky to be in the position where even that's affordable. Feeling grateful, for sure!

  • New Democratic Party @lemmy.ca

I just paid $100 bucks for dental work that would have cost me nearly $700 out of pocket last year.

  • Oy. Sadly, I suspect anybody who has worked in dev knows the outlines of this story: Management promising deliverables with unrealistic timelines and functionality; team leads with such poor internal product knowledge they don't recognize catastrophic issues until it's too late; poorly-trained devs squeezed to push out unscalable kludgy insecure nightmares "for now" that just never get addressed; systems gradually becoming a Jenga tower of manual workarounds and undocumented slapdash quick fixes... Ugh. Nightmare fuel.

  • The longer I'm an adult the more terrifying it is to realize how many people there are in positions of power over people who are either complete morons or straight up mentally ill.

  • the large U.S. private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management invested $50 million US

Fascinated at how many Wall Street bros will just unironically give their companies names that are so blatantly villainous to anyone with an iota of cultural competency. Weyland-Yutani next?

  • This "Shield of the Americas" thing that apparently the very NOT FIRED please don't tell people i was fired-Noem is being shunted into is gonna be just another Greenland-esque bullshit attempt to push and bully every sovereign nation across two continents. And with her involved, everybody brace yourself because it's gonna get stupider, more insulting, and more aggressive. Like yeah, better get this woman involved in international diplomacy because she and her boyfriend/side piece did such a fucking normal job of domestic affairs... ಠ_ಠ

  • I do hope this move results in more support for the IA/Wayback Machine and helps them to update some of their crawler tech — thanks to the rise of AI, some sites are effectively (thru captchas etc.) or actively (through straight-up greed [coughRedditcough]) blocked from being archived almost entirely, which is frustrating for legit archivists/contributors.

  • WHERE does this motherfucker get off?? What kind of lunatic still has the audacity to claim some right to head a Board of PEACE when 75% of the headlines I've read today said he's been gasping, sweating and salivating in anticipation of getting to start yet another idiotic middle east war, this time with Iran, of all places...

  • One person reportedly described the scene as "Graham on his worst TV day."

    So... hammered?

  • Goddamn. And what mostly kills me about "tiny homes" is that, like... prefabs exist! Mobile homes exist! They've existed for a long time! But the cultural divide and associated stigma that has been cultivated by dipshits like David Brooks and his ilk has led a huge number of people to believe they're too good for "trailer" living, so they opt to pay thru the nose for very little additional benefit.

  • libertarian city-states to “restore Western Civilization.”

These grasping neo-feudalist motherfuckers need a boot lodged somewhere dark and moist. And despite his delusions of being some kind of master of the universe, someone needs to break it to Thiel he ain't the incarnation of Moore's Ozymandias, despite the fact he clearly thinks dollars = 'smart boy points' that automatically confer genius on any topic his greasy, Zippy-the-Pinhead-esque noggin puts its mind to.

  • News @lemmy.world

WSJ lawyers argue Trump's past public comments are so "bawdy" it's impossible for him to suffer reputational harm from its Epstein coverage

  • Oh look, it's a picture of me at every family gathering.

  • More than a dozen since 2020? Shit, I bet I've seen video documentation of more than a dozen incidents that deserve criminal charges this week.

  • I think a lot of U.S. politicians (as well as many civilians, frankly) are under the delusion that once Trump is out of office things will 'return to normal'. That may have been true after his first term, but the landscape has shifted seismically since then. Thanks to MAGA, in a single year the U.S. has shit the bed in virtually every category of former dominance, and has effectively ceded its leadership position on the world stage. Trust is gone, alliances have been broken, and if Newsom et al. really believe things will be 'business as usual' ever again, their delusion is showing.

  • Honestly, I was leaning toward "funny but probably fake" myself until I checked out OP's post history, which mentions "startups" and namedrops a few SaaS tools used heavily in marketing. If you've worked with marketers (or a fair few startup bros, honestly), you'll know this isn't beyond the bounds of reason for some of them 😂

  • Fuck AI @lemmy.world

Everything's fine. Nothing to see here.

  • Not The Onion @lemmy.world

Trump's delusion he has an "irrefutable" right to impose voting restrictions on states might originate from a Florida ex-Marriott employee who claims he found secret text in the U.S. Constitution
