  • There’s lots of things that parents do to their kids without their consent. I’d argue it’s worse to share their face on social media than to circumcise due to the true dangers of predators usage of technology. That doesn’t mean I think parents should be considered abusive if they do. That said, this is in the UK so I don’t have a horse in that race.

  • I was a sysadmin, so my thoughts above were more from the enterprise deployment side of things. I tend to stay out of the recommending of tech hardware to people since they’re not likely going to put up with Linux, or even listen to me past the beginning explainer of how simple building your own machine is.

  • In the K12 computer space I always found it was cheaper to buy Apple devices for my users. Both from the fact that those devices did actually have less problems and lasted longer and so required less human monetary investment, but also an actual cost perspective since a MacBook Air could be bought for $800 after education enterprise discounts. Which was a much better than most devices in that price range (this was like 2018).

And in a world where HP exists you say the shittiest computer brand with dell?? (I work in tech sales now and I always joke with first time customers that they have to tell me their brand preference first since everyone in IT has a preference of devices between Dell, HP and Lenovo.)

  • If I could just experience the high of having Windows Phone sounds and experience… I would be so happy. For all the shit it got, Windows Phone is still the most beautiful mobile OS, and the way it utilized sound is still next level.

  • Really glad then that the guy we got instead increased their funding, bombed Iran and took out a world leader just for oil. Clearly a much better situation than the latter would have been.

  • I agree with your sentiment, but American voters only care about whatever happened in short term memory. I’d love to believe that somehow Trump has that level of a hold, but I don’t think he does if he isn’t here. I think his supporters move on, and I think if Vance is in power it turns worse for all of us given history, but I’d love to be wrong.

  • He would remove most tariffs and the economy, because it was already short of picking up before tariffs, would bounce back and likely do well. Because of that he would likely be looked at as making things “better“ and then we would end up with another 6 years of MAGA republicans. Because of that we will not see him in any legal hot seat. It’s just wishful thinking. Nothing in the last 10 years has shown it would turn into anything good for the “left” rather than just backfire.

  • Toyota does a special color every year for their TRD lineup.

If you’re willing to count the black roof combo option the Corolla has 15 color options or 8 full color options. Red and blue are offered. Just no yellow or orange.

People just don’t want to wait for a special car and want whatever is on the dealer lot. So they make as many of those in boring colors.

  • Toyota is famous for their wildly colorful cars in the TRD lineup. Magma Orange, nori green, and that like Smurf blue color.

Ford has a vibrant blue as well. GM doesn’t deviate from bare colors much, but Ram/dodge will as well. Patriot blue, fire engine red, delmonico red, and plum crazy.

Porsche has full paint to sample.

Mercedes is basically famous for black cars so…

Anyways, cars have colorful variants, just the consumer base either isn’t willing to wait for the order, or they don’t want to pay the extra 500-900 dollars most non-standard paint color costs.

Also, a lot of manufacturers offer up tri coat white metallic which obviously looks boring from afar, but up close is very vibrant.

  • Happy to help! If you ever want to be irrationally angry at either the worlds dumbest engineer, or finance people somehow having a say in design; go look up oil changes on Ram trucks. They’re hilariously awful. Filters are placed facing down over things like steering gear boxes or right over the front differential. So it just gets over everything. In the case of the 2500 you have to go through the front bumper on the power wagons to get the oil filter out.

But their trans are solid. It’s also the only good part in Rams, BMWs and Audi. A real miracle.

  • Older rams had a trans that would absolutely break or grenade itself. New rams, as much as their engine and electronics still suck ass, have a ZF Transmission and it’s REALLY good. Dead reliable and holds power.

  • My concern if the dems do impeach Trump IF they win the midterms is that either he will not step down (which he can technically do) and then it’s moot. Or we impeach Trump, get Vance and then because he didn’t suck as bad as Trump we get another 4 years of a republican president.

  • He’s gonna have to ask the Bailey’s first.

  • Light… I hear we’re looking at ways of putting that into the body.

  • It’s more the fact that our topography is extremely difficult to make level to the degree that true high speed rail needs. Most of the environmental review, and land acquisition (the hardest and legal parts) are mostly wrapped up from San Jose into LA now.

The bigger issue with what’s made this project take more time IMO (and as a California resident) is that we basically refused the help of high speed rail engineers and designers from the EU and Japan. They showed up the day after the initial prop passed to help and we turned them away. We like to try and do things our own way here in Cali and sometimes that really bites us in the ass. I’d rather have some of those tax dollars “leave” the state or country in exchange for knowledgeable people helping us get it done faster.

Also, I’d advise anybody who can to drive around the Central Valley. The scale of high speed rail projects and the size of them is INSANE. Especially compared to the surrounding environment.

  • LSC as a car-tuber is just such a gift. No click bait, no rage bait, no being a dick in his cars. Just a love of vehicles and working on them. Him and Doug DeMuro are like the only thing keeping me sane in the car community since all the others turn to super cars, buying insanely expensive stuff, and just constant environmental shitting and debauchery. I know my cars aren’t great for the environment, but the way other car-tubers just open pollute and destroy the environment is disheartening.

  • I’d say AirBnB’s pricing is worse since my hotel stay means I can just pack my stuff and leave. Most of the AirBnB’s I’ve stayed at have required me to cleanup after myself like I didn’t just pay a “cleaning” fee.

  • Not to mention that AirBnB doesn’t give me “points” to stay nights for free. So if you travel for work especially you basically squander your money away. AirBnB only makes sense if you’re a group of people and even then my last trip with them ended up being one where I regretted just not paying for me and my friends to stay in individual hotel rooms because it would have been cheaper and more convenient for parking and amenities.
