Got burnt out with the corporate job but now I've moved to another discipline, I have my mojo back for messing with PCs.
The last few years I've delved into all the things I've wanted to but never took the time. I'm all in on Linux from mid-last year - which in itself has reinvigorated my curiosity for everything.
I've recently started leaning html to create a basic web page with the intention of joining the indie web, then when I tire off those, I'm keen to contribute to oss projects (support because I can't code)
90% of the NZ population was right behind this... And then the tobacco lobby got their fingers into the govt and they folded like the cheap 1-ply TP they are. Fuckers!
Best explanation I've come up with (or maybe I've heard somewhere?) for Arnie's accent is that it's a cover for unusual behavior if he needs to blend in (vs blasting everyone in sight). If he sounded like a local, he would be expected to act like a local, even down to 'modern' lingo and pop culture references of the time/place he's been sent to.
With his Austrian accent, it's immediately obvious that he's "not from around here" which would disarm a lot of suspicion around any odd behavior.
This comes back around in T2 when he's introduced as "Uncle Bob". It's obviously a cover for the relationship but the accent somewhat masks most unusual behavior. Doesn't talk much? Perhaps he isn't strong on English. Doesn't pick up on social ques? He's just not from here. Drinks motor oil instead of tequila? Wait, what!?
That's a good point and something I haven't really considered but will keep that in mind moving forward - that's part of my problem is not really being aware of what already exists or the most suitable method (or for different distros).
That's what ended up getting me into trouble on Bazzite when I was attempting to use Fedora documentation thinking it's similar and broke boot trying to mess with fstab. Only recently found out why that didn't work!
Excuse my dumb, does this mean when I close a window/application in a particular location/size, when I launch it again, it returns to the last known size/location? Or does this only address crash/restore scenarios?
Trump is preparing the us for invasion. Invasion by Russia. Exhaust the military supplies, run the world's fuel supply dry so that tanks etc are useless and no one can come help, then Russia, still flush with oil can walk in with their remaining hardware unopposed
Think of something you've never mentioned or discussed before, then out of nowhere, start having a conversation with a friend about it, how much you like it and are thinking about getting it, taking lessons etc then see what happens over the next week on either your or your friend's ads (turn off ad blocker if you use one).
I recommend something completely unusual for most people like an instrument (didgeridoo or cowbell)
At midnight, on the 12th of August
A huge mass of luminous gas erupted from Mars Jupiter and sped towards Earth
Across two hundred million miles of void
Invisibly hurtling towards us
Came the first of the missiles that were to bring so much calamity to Earth
As I watched, there was another jet of gas
It was another missile, starting on its way
And that's how it was for the next ten nights
A flare, spurting out from Mars Jupiter
Bright green, drawing a green mist behind it
A beautiful, but somehow disturbing sight
Ogilvy, the astronomer, assured me we were in no danger
He was convinced there could be no living thing on that remote
Forbidding planet

Except often a good number of their assets exist in the real world. Businesses, buildings & land. These can be taxed regardless of their global location.
We can find fun new ways to apply horrendous taxes that penalize this behavior but reduce them for those who behave in a decent way. Maybe we start taxing turnover on companies use the Irish double sandwich-whatever trick to minimize tax. Either they play ball and contribute to society or they GTFO and someone else takes their slice
Someone with enough know-how to automate (or if we coordinate), could overwhelm ai chat bots one target at a time with the most expensive requests possible, blowing up their ai budget until they pull the plug
Absolutely, was in the same boat as you.
