  • in addition to capitalism and imperialist wars holding society back, technology is not like a linear video game progression, everything is subject to the law of diminishing returns.

Yeah but hasn't the history of scientific progress shown that every time we think we're at a stagnation point, a breakthrough discovery is made that shatters the old paradigm?

  • I dunno, I don't really see her caste status as a big factor in her political rise/career. Also, she's not really the "settler" since she was born here right? It would be her parents that are the "settlers"? But wouldn't "immigrants" be more appropriate for her parents? It's not like they came here to dispossess the natives of anything. I think you're really stretching your analysis here with both the "Brahmin" and "settler" thing. She's bad, but not because of those reasons.

  • I see what you're saying, but ultimately I think it doesn't have to do with the violence itself and more to do with the overall way in which we frame things. For example, no matter how hard a creator might try to make something seem "brutal" or "anticapitalist," there's gonna be people that interpret it completely the other way. Kind of like the "Squid Game is actually pretty cool! Also it's pro capitalist and anti communist!"

Same thing for violence I think. Like past and current indigenous cultures are very close to "violence" when it comes to things like hunting and slaughtering livestock for food, but you didn't see the kind of brutal violence you're talking about until things colonialism/imperialism.

I could see a future communist society that doesn't have issues with real life violence but still has action movies and video games. It doesn't really seem like a contradiction to me.

  • politics @hexbear.net

Not gonna lie the whole "republicans are weird" thing low-key kinda reminds me of the "Trump and Putin are TOTALLY GAY FOR EACH OTHER! I bet Putin totally fcks him in the a*" discourse

  • You can also go climb a tree, it means the same as voting. Actually climbing a tree would objectively be better cuz at least you'll get exercise.

  • As a 40 year old voter I can say things have changed.

Why are there so many lemmy dorkfucks in here? wtf...

  • rightist

Does anyone actually say "rightist"? Sounds like some "oh yeah, if we're leftists, then YOU'RE RIGHTISTS!! HAHA THE PEN IS MIGHTER THAN THE SWORD MLADY!!"

  • If they are going to violate labor laws anyway, why don't you just do it anyway as well? All I'm saying is do something.

Cool go do an adventurism then LOLOLOLOOLOLOLOL.

Jesus fucking christ.... "You can't legally be fired for discussing wages." SMFH

  • This should be spread far and wide to all libs everywhere.

  • If you go to a climbing wall you'll be surrounded by hot, ripped leftists.

In my experience they may seem "leftist" but they are at most AOC democrat sheepherders. They're also the type that stopped masking immediately when all those around them stopped. They're the types that wanted to vote for Biden in 2020 cuz "muh harm reduction."

Honestly, fuck gym climbers. The real ones are the ones who dirtbag and climb outdoors. The indoor climbers are just a bunch of liberal PMC motherfuckers that can afford to spend $90 month at a climbing gym. They probably work for some military contractor or some other industry like that and will ultimately side with the fash because they are liberals.

Also, they will also be pretty vain. Just look at the motherfucking dudes who climb with their shirts off in the gym. They do it for the sole purpose of "impressing chicks" smh. Some girls do this as well by basically wearing bikinis while climbing. Which honestly puts off any new climber who's not skinny or "hot." Whatever "salt of the earth" there was in climbing is completely gone and it is now just as commodified as football.

  • With that constant roaring sound plus the noise of 200 people?

On the plane sound is really audible. From my experience most ppl on airplanes are pretty quiet.

  • "this is how we've always lived so it's good"

    Uh I didn't say that.

  • This actually doesn't seem too bad. In a way it's like a mini digital detox. I don't really see anything wrong with it. Kinda weird to see ppl here acting like it's "psycho" to try this. Humans haven't had any kind of tech for 99.99% of their history, so kinda of just being alone with your thoughts has been the norm and what we basically evolved with. What's actually "psycho" is thinking that constantly having something entertaining at your call and beckon is normal. To anyone that thinks otherwise, take a deep breath, step back, and really look inward and do some self-crit.

It's only because it seems to be associated with red-pill stuff that ppl here seem to be so annoyed with it. If it was a marxist that advocated this, would ppl really be so upset? I could easily see Breht from Rev Left advocating for something like this. Honestly this just seems like "bad guy does stuff, so I don't like" shit. Once again, the western left is basically just "vibes" and "feels" in a weirdly idealist way.

The Teamsters president is speaking at the RNC... It's pretty much over for the US, fascism is coming, might be best to skip town if you can

  • Me when I am not cured of a disease, merely rescued from it's symptoms and effects to the point where I am no longer adversely affected

So you're siding with the doctor in the article?

  • the_dunk_tank @hexbear.net

Diabetes 'cured' for first time in stem cell study - but there's a less expensive alternative

  • Religion is the opium of the masses.

Yeah what the FUCK is the OP trying to do with the New Atheist level bullshit? It should honestly be reported for low-key racism.

  • Wait medical debt isn't on credit reports now?

  • I think it's important to highlight that even us here (hexbear, lemmygrad, etc.) can fall into the trap of quickly judging someone and passing immediate moral judgment without looking at all the other stuff a person does/says. I've listened to her more chill podcast where she talks with people who call in (it's called The Debrief) as well as a decent number of Bad Faith episodes. I get that she worked during the day at the Hill, a right wing media source, but how many leftists have been seen on other "not leftist" media sources such as RT, Al Jazeera, etc. I get the sense that she is definitely more than a "western leftist" and is quite anti-imperialist.

  • Brianna is legit

I've always thought so, but you'd be surprised how many in this sub have unironically called her a grifter. I've seen it many times here.

Here's one example I found real quick: https://hexbear.net/post/235686?scrollToComments=false

They are grifters... and are in the orbit of most of the grifter greats including but not limited to Jimmy Dore, Max Blumenthal, Briahna Joy Gray, Glenn Greenwald, Jackson Hinkle

Here's another just in case someone says "oh it's only one example you found": https://hexbear.net/comment/2720901

I feel like she's been in the grift zone since the Bernie campaign ended

Finally here's a third just for good measure: https://hexbear.net/comment/2957658

Lol of course Briahna Joy Gray is doing this. I mean, I'm a little surprised at Useful Idiots without Matty T is doing this shit, but goddamn is it just abunch of post-Bernie grifters.

  • Chapotraphouse @hexbear.net

The same people who fell asleep during Dune 1 because it was "boring" also....
