Recommend going this route rather than trying to manually edit your hosts files. Makes it easier to turn off & on and whitelist domains if something breaks.
Use the rooted option, it'll modify the hosts file for you & still let you connect to a VPN
My sister and I had some of these as pets, given to us by one of the professors at the local university. Her office was covered from floor to ceiling with animal habitats and had just the most amazing vibe in there. Wish I remembered her name. The university has since torn that building down and I'm sure she's no longer working there
EFF exists to protect people's digital rights. Not just the people who already value our work, have opted out of surveillance, or have already migrated to the fediverse. The people who need us most are often the ones most embedded in the walled gardens of the mainstream platforms
If you have the android 14 update you're not going to be able to install LineageOS on that Chromecast. Only devices that haven't been updated past the February 2021 patch level are vulnerable to the exploit required to install lineage.
Edit: not trying to imply this is their fault. Just thought it was funny that something labeled as "the bsd for everyone" had to be limited to "not for everyone". I agree with their move to restrict downloads in these locations because of these laws
