  • lol that was the previous set up. I thought since their AI is integrated now, id speed things up and go from the long delays to something more instantaneous. Now it's so bad with the false positives I don't even bother checking alerts anymore. I need to go back again.

  • Back in the day you could find a forum post explaining exactly how anything worked, grey hat or not? Since then the internet has sanitized that out of existence. Should Lemmy revive that culture?

  • I would very much like Lemmy to be that, but unfortunately Lemmy hasn't been here long enough or 'active' enough to be that sort of a repository. I still have to search on reddit to find any specialized info or even reviews or discussions on random stuff. Funnily, if I post the same question on Lemmy and reddit, pretty much 100% of the time I get better and more numerous answers here on lemmy compared to reddit. I can see that lemmy has the people with the answers, but we need more people with the questions.

  • Thanks for the detailed info. Is there a way to provision a walled off youtube experience? I want her to leverage the vast knowledge stores on youtube for her various interests (blender tutorials for example), but also don't want her getting hooked on youtube itself, as I know how easy it can be to lose control. Currently I have a jellyfin server where I have a collection of hand selected youtube videos available as a library for her to watch, but I want her to gain the skills to find information/solution on the internet without getting exposed to its nastiness.

  • Yeah I totally get your point. You're preaching to the choir here. Funny thing is, even if my daughter comes across anything like that, she just assumes that's normal. There's a show she watched where a boy had two dads, and she never even asked me why there are two dads lol. My wife got into the YouTube deepend on many topics, so it's pretty much impossible to change her mind about pretty much anything. Any time I try to go against her in any of the parenting choices, I immediately become a 'bad dad'. At this point I'm smuggling contraband for my daughter.

  • She actually grew up here, but my wife is a 'bit' conservative, and doesn't want to expose our daughter to the 'bad parts' of the western culture. That's fine, but too much of anything is not a good thing, and it's causing our daughter to grow up sheltered. (for instance, Craig of the Creek used to be her favorite show a couple of years ago, but my wife found out it has some queer representation in it, and banned her from watching it. I have to pick my battles, so I can't argue with her for every single thing). Her friends are already starting to make fun of her for how 'ignorant' she is on some topics. I'm in a tough spot, but trying to do the best with what cards I've been dealt.
