  • Aquaman on the Can?

  • Sergei Krikalev was stuck on the Mir space station for 311 days after the Soviet Union broke up.

  • No, you are mistaken, 1994 was, at most, 15 years ago...

  • R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find out what it means to me.

  • There was a story years ago about some scientists who dropped a box of tablets into a village somewhere that had no previous contact with modern tech. They went back some time later, and the kids had figured out, not only how to use them, but had networked them too. I wonder what ever happened with that, or if it was even true? I suppose I should google it.

  • What have the Romans ever done for us?

  • Belfast was an awfully precarious location when this was taken in 1987.

  • Colin Furze has done the same thing in the UK on YouTube. I haven't heard any criticism of him.

  • To be fair, I don't think anyone had moved in there yet.

There is nothing new here. There has always been a vocal, violent, right leaning minority in Irish society. There have been two instances that have made headlines around the world in the past few weeks that may make it seem like Irish society in general is leaning further to the right. I hope this isn't true.

  • So burn the hotel down?

  • Heart attack or stroke are usually described by the media as "died suddenly".

  • There is a journalistic shorthand at work here, "brief illness" usually means something discovered too late to treat, RIP Sir.

  • The idea of someone having a pet snake in 1982 would have been so bizarre that it would be deemed comical. That said snake is called "Ginger," a typical name for a harmless cat, not a 30-foot python reinforces that. This would probably have raised a sensable chuckle back in the day, but I don't think it really stands up to the test of time.

  • While not a renaissance fair exactly, there is a jousting tournament in Leeds Castle in Kent once or twice a year. It's a lot of fun with armour, swords, horses, the whole shebang.
