I try to contribute to things getting better, with sourced information, OC and polite rational skepticism.Disagreeing with a point ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.Let's discuss to make things better sustainably.Always happy to question our beliefs.

  • What a massive waste of energy. The fediverse is small enough, can you guys not try to discuss politely about your differences of opinions without any ego-powered threats and hot-headed reactions?

  • People don’t want to give up that luxury now that they’ve had it.

Maybe people should also take some responsibility there?

  • For those curious about which distribution because Linux alone does not mean much, from the description:

  • 2027, year of Linux car, or bicycle.

  • Famine, whoever is in charge of cutting funds for humanitarian projects the USA were supporting and threatening millions of lives.

  • Let's hope my predictions are wrong then. Are you betting on it?

  • Just reminding people Kobo is not just that nice little Canadian tech company anymore, it's part of tech giant. So don't fall for the David and Goliath narrative that is implied here. It's rather third-rate Goliath and Goliath. So take your precautions where you can. I sadly don't have an alternative to suggest.

  • Just not allowed by his organization. Competitive swimmers actually started to use wet suits at some point, but it was deemed too advantageous because it increased floatability and was eventually forbidden.

  • According to the video, it's not allowed by the rules of the organization he records his performances with. Only short swimsuit, swimming goggles and swimming cap allowed. Also forbidden to take a break by grabbing the support boat. He also said he takes ginger tea and a banana every 30 min, because it is the only thing that goes down well for him during prolonged effort.

  • It's a translation from French so it's not perfectly natural.

  • Maybe just unfinished?

  • I don't want to ruin good news, but everyone needs to know that Kobo is owned by the shitty Japanese Amazon equivalent called Rakuten since 2012. So the risk of enshitification is pretty high, why not if the hardware is nice, but try to cut as many software ties as possible.

  • If you care about security and privacy, you need to pay. It's about 5$ a month, it's only way those services can exist without exploiting your data. If you don't mind getting your data vacuumed in exchange for information access, you can use a free one.

  • Yes, VPN services usually have mobile apps, Mullvad for exemple is well respected here.

  • 🇪🇺

  • You can try a VPN too.

  • Maybe country dependant, works fine from Japan.

    Intro:

If you have ever taken old clothes to a recycling bank, be it in the UK or North America, there is a real chance that the garments ended up illegally dumped in a desert in northern Chile.

The South American country is one of the world's biggest importers of used clothing, but items that fail to be resold have for years been simply discarded in big piles out in the barren, bone-dry countryside. In response to a law change, one Chilean company is now moving to tackle the problem.
