  • "Software-defined vehicles" is an industry trend. Not specific to AI (the term has been around for a decade or so). It means vehicles that are defined more by their software than by the hardware (which is how people have historically seen vehicles).

As an example, consider your phone. They have hardware specs, but it's often the software that defines the product more than the specs.

  • What about this is specific to Christianity? It looks like more of the same garbage from the current administration (which is certainly vile trash).

  • It's fine if they want to get drunk at work, but I should be able to have that privilege as well.

  • I typically want to dispell a lot of ridiculous Canadian stereotypes, but I find the opposite happens instead. Case in point:

This is a picture of my father eating cheerios with maple syrup instead of milk.

  • I've used both, been daily driving Cachy for a year or two now. CachyOS is a bit easier than plain Arch, in my opinion. I've been using Octopi (a gui tool that fronts the package manager) because I never fully got the hang of pacman yet. And I use Btrfs Assistant (another gui tool) instead of configuring snapper from the CLI.

Overall, it's more involved than something likr Ubuntu or Debian, but it feels manageable.

  • And it looks as shitty as it drives

  • Yeah that's the newer standard here as well, my house just didn't happen to have a valve on both sides (and the city is only respinsible for up to the shutoff in my front yard, so I was stuck with doing the work).

At some point, I realized that literally anyone can start a trade business doing anything, whether they know what they're doing or not. And by the time you find out you got one of the latter ones, they've already fucked it all up.

  • Yeah, that's what I mean.

As an example, I recently replaced the shutoff valve for my water main in my house. I did the work myself (copper fittings, sweated off the old valve and soldered a new one). The guys from the city who came to shut off the water were suprised we soldered it properly the first time--apparently, even with most professionals, they'll turn the water back on and there will be a leak, they'll have to come back once or twice more. These are for professionals, not DIYers. I think I'll continue to do my own plumbing.

  • "Yes, Guiness, this one over here is the goodest boy in the whole world"

  • THUMP

  • Expecting people to not sabotage the rolling death machines "too high a bar"

  • Fellas, is it fascist to acknowledge genocide?

  • You're welcome

  • If they took the position with that kind of tone and flippant attitude, I doubt it would go well. Any time you lead with "no private ownership" people stop listening to you. However, if they took unapologetic socialist positions on all the issues at hand, they might do well, especially citing human rights and dignity as the underlying motivation (which people are consistently finding the other big two parties lacking).

  • TLDR: capitalism

  • Space for juniors has been disappearing for the last decade (see years of memes about entry-level positions requiring 2 to 3 years of experience). AI just gives corporations reason to continue the trend.

  • To be fair, my kids still love stickers. It's just not a social/trading thing.

  • Corporate greed is leading to fewer jobs for young people. AI is their scapegoat.

  • I'm gonna guess that most people (myself included) saw the candybar format and the word "Nokia" and assumed it was a "dumb" phone. I'm guessing they looked at the messaging app with the largest or broadest market share and used that as a point to clarify that it's a "smart" phone.

  • This is actually a pretty normal response to the situation you're in. You can ask your therapist more about it, but I'll try for at least a general explanation.

Our brains aren't wired to make us happy; they're wired to make us survive. And one of the base survival instincts is: "same=safe, different=unsafe." You can see this instinct in infants and animals. Things that are familiar help our brains relax, while new things tend to set off red flags.

Your brain is used to living in a dark place. Now that you're emerging from it, your brain feels suspicious, and weirdly "wants" to revert back to what's familiar. When we're in less familiar territory, we subconsciously prepare to retreat into that safe, familiar space, even if it's not a place we really want to be (this also comes into play for things like abusive relationships and substance abuse).

There's also likely an element where your worldview is being challenged. Our brains like to make sense of the world, finding patterns in even random things. If you've felt depressed for a long time, your brain will attempt to come up with some rationale for why. Often it suggests to you that you don't deserve happiness for some reason, but the reasoning is actually based on the fact that you've felt that way for no discernable reason. It's a weird thing, and the end result is that you've internalized some perspective of yourself that is being challenged by these new positive experiences. And again, different=unsafe according to our base instincts.

The Oatmeal did a great explanation on some of these things in a funny and informative format, definitely worth a read. It's not directly related to depression, but might give some insight on what you're feeling.
