  • !fark@ibbit.at is, anyway. I see it in all sometimes.

Edit: Or do I? I know I see posts from the Fark RSS feed not infrequently in all, but the actual community so named seems dead.

  • Little bit of additional context:

    5% of 311 billion is 15.55 billion.

    57M is about 0.018% of 311 billion.

311 billion is an obscene amount of money.

  • You may need to take a second read of the comment you're replying to.

  • Anyone have a non-paywalled version?

  • The article doesn't clarify whether this is one of the resolutions that can be vetoed... if it is, it's unfortunately definitely DOA. No way it won't get at least a US veto.

  • Plug-in solar panels may be an option, depending on your specific locality. Those don't require the hefty permanent installation of typical rooftop solar.

  • I have definitely seen more horrifying deaths written about, anyway. I think it's one of those things where reading a brief summary of it may not immediately evoke existential chills in those not already prone to cave-related phobias, but I wouldn't want to watch a 15-minute video breakdown of the situation.

  • Why wouldn't they be able to support bison? I have definitely seen solar successfully used for cow grazing pastures, and while cows are not bison, in terms of ability to destabilize a panel by throwing weight around and in terms of dietary needs, I can't see what would make bison less suitable for this than cows.

  • If you don't know about the Nutty Putty cave, it's a cave system that has now been permanently closed after the horrible death of a caver who got stuck there. Look up details at your own peril. The name "Nutty Putty" is unrelated to the death and references the putty-like soft clay found in many of the passages, so you may cleanse yourself of any horrid mental images brought upon by speculation on the name.

  • Exact same for me.

  • He's just shopping around for a new dentist now that his favorite one has closed.

  • In retrospect, it's kind of wild how many of us (myself sadly included) actually believed Google's "Don't be evil" thing instead of seeing it as a "My "Not involved in human trafficking" T-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt." situation.

  • The solid three minutes after someone asks me how I'm doing before I remember to ask it back, just about every time 😬

  • There were definitely long term colonies in a lot of places, but most of those places are no longer under settler control. The damage to be repaired is huge, and there's still economic control from a distance going on, but it's miles different from what happened in the Americas, especially North America, I'd say.

  • I'm honestly convinced that the Americas would have eventually repelled the European invaders if the introduced (and intentionally spread) diseases weren't so devastating. Guns and metal armor are pretty good in warfare and all, but the size of the army required to subjugate millions of people across varied terrain where the invaders are wildly unfamiliar with the land and how to live in it while the defenders have been present for thousands of years, are very familiar with the land, have established warfare traditions, quickly adapt to introduced technologies, and have allied with historic enemies to repel invaders? Does not tend to go well for the invaders.

  • Happy belated Mother's Day!

  • I am absolutely stealing "Europe just got a lucky spawn."
