  • Not a game necessarily, but I decided two days ago to make my own mod launcher for Doom (specifically, GZDoom). I got fed up with the ones that currently exist that lack features I want (not to mention being really old).

UI and theming are definitely not finished, but I'm really happy with how it's shaping up. Made in Godot, as is usual for me.

  • Really great shader. Reminds me a lot of Balatro's background.

  • I've been seeing videos for it all over Mastodon and it's really cool. I never got into Pico-8 since I felt it was too limiting, but Picotron looks a lot more open and easy to use. Really want to get my hands on it when it's out of alpha.

  • There doesn't seem to be any affordable small phones. Small phones don't have a big market so they're usually $500+ and have worse specs than other phones in the same price range.

  • Edit: Oh, i see now why everything seemed so sketchy, they have been promoting this since 2022 as a platform for metaverses, webchain and all that web3 bullshit

That might've been the investor pitch but luckily it doesn't seem like any of that has made it into what exists now. Seems like they're just going to take a percentage of profit from games on their platform.

    1. Yes

    2. It seems like they have a platform/launcher with user-created content in it. They get 10% marketplace fee but since it's fully open source you can probably publish your game outside of their platform.

  • Just my personal hot take haha, had nothing but bad experiences with Python.

  • This is really cool. It seems to be getting hugged to death though, I'm getting a lot of server errors when I attempt to open most apps.

  • Very weird. That's probably due to your browser since I know firefox forks don't run too well with Webgl2, I mainly use regular Firefox and fullscreen works normally there. Glad you like the game though!

  • It saddens me deeply that consumers (gamers) just don’t give a flying fuck about this and continues to pay a premium for Nvidia cards.

It doesn't help that AMD isn't competing that much price-wise. Their only saving grace is higher VRAM, and while that is nice, raw performance is becoming less relevant. FSR also does not compete with DLSS, it's strictly worse in every way. They also barely exist in the laptop market, I was just considering buying a new gaming laptop and my options are an RTX 4060 or paying more for the one laptop with a weaker AMD GPU.

I would argue Intel is shaping up to be the real competitor to Nvidia. They had a rough start but their GPUs are very price-competitive. Their newer integrated GPUs are also the best currently, they're good for gen AI, their raytracing performance trumps AMD, and XeSS is a lot better than FSR. If I were in the market for a new GPU I'd probably grab the Intel A770. I'm looking forward to their next generation of cards.

  • Thanks for trying it out, I've gotten some good feedback on year 3 from others as well. I definitely overdid it with the darkness a bit, but I've got plans for a "definitive edition" of the game with some more content and a less punishing difficulty.

  • That just because I'm a programmer that must mean I'm a master of anything technology related and can totally help out with their niche problems.

"Hey computer guy, how do I search for new channels on my receiver?"

"Hey computer guy, my excel spreadsheet is acting weird"

"My mobile data isn't working. Fix this."

My friend was a programmer and served in the army, people ordered him to go fix a sattelite. He said he has no idea how but they made him try anyways. It didn't work and everyone was disappointed.

  • Thanks again for managing such a great instance. The effort put into everything really shows.

The iceshrimp instance looks neat too

  • So much great stuff in this release. I've been looking forward to single-threaded web builds especially, but other things like the new project manager are good changes too.

Lots of great QoL changes and bug fixes as well, like the "is not" operator and being able to loop audio via audiostreamplayer rather than on import. Good UI changes like being able to reverse flow container direction and indeterminate progress bars too.

    The wait for 4.3 continues...

  • Good read, and I think you might want to look at OnlyOffice. It's open source and while it is kindof a shameless Microsoft Office clone, it does seem to support LaTeX when adding equations. Not sure how well it works as I don't use it though. The slides app is pretty decent, the only bone I have to pick with it is that there aren't many animation types and most of them are very basic. Otherwise, might be what you're looking for.

Edit: I just tried it and it seems to work pretty well. Select LaTeX, type your equation, then select professional in the dropdown menu and it'll show the equation.

  • This really sucks, he was doing a great job as a core contributor. I'm not going to speculate on the why since it looks like internal drama between him and the team, but what shocks me is how sudden he left. He just finished and merged a big PR to rework the project manager UI a day before this tweet.

Edit: The Godot Foundation just released a statement

It is true that the Foundation has parted ways with Yuri. Please respect that we as an organization will not go into further detail, we value protecting any former contractor’s privacy over public demands.

However, due to the rampant speculations out there we see the need to emphasize: This situation has nothing to do with Yuri being of Russian descent (a country he has not resided in since before our contracts). We always have and will continue to condemn personal attacks, on Yuri as well as anyone else we are working with.

Lastly, Yuri was one of many valuable contributors to the project, his absence will be felt. The core team is working hard to ensure that we can continue working efficiently.

  • That has been merged into another project called Sublinks

Wow, nice. Does this mean Pangora will be the official front-end for Sublinks?

  • TL;DR you'll enjoy it if you like casual puzzle games lol.

Voxelgram is a spiritual successor to an older game called Picross 3D. Picross 3D is a 3D version of a popular logic puzzle called Nonograms.
