  • yeah, you're right :v i was just thinking about how i'd filter spam right after i posted this

    perhaps i should just host a lemmy community as you suggested, that's a good idea!

    as for weather protecting, that's a good point. i guess i didn't think this through bc where i live it is mostly warm all the time (it rarely rains, except for specific seasons). maybe i should just place the books in places with roofs or other types of weather protection

    it'd be nice if i could see miniatures of the archives (so that i could see what i'm picking). i've mostly solved this problem by ordering the files according to the order they were modified last, though

  • I use Cinnamon too. It shows the thumbnails on the folder itself, but when accessing it through other apps/sites it only shows in this list format.

  • yeah, in that sense i don't trust them either. they may not be openly evil but it's a matter of time before this becomes more obvious. i feel this way about discord also (it annoys me sometimes but it's still usable, but i know this won't last long). let's hope people come up with a better alternative soon

    i only found out about open source culture this year as i was looking into the fediverse (i don't know much about tech) and it has given me a lotta hope 🤗

  • there is a pocket star trek novel i can't find a physical copy for less than 100 US dollars called "a stitch in time". for some reason they won't reprint it (they released an audiobook recently but i don't personally like reading books that are not physical paper books).

  • Well, someone murdered the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and it is alleged that this guy named Luigi Mangione did it. The media went into a frenzy trying to make us hate Luigi, but since most Americans experience what is like to live under a system that treats healthcare as a way to make profits, nobody did. They even tried framing this as a left x right issue instead of a class issue but even many people on the right didn't think Luigi did anything wrong. Luigi is also a conventionally attractive dude, so it's hard for the media to play with people's preexisting prejudices. After many attempts, they seem to have decided the best approach to this was to suppress all speech on the matter. They are trying to frame this murder as an act of terrorrism and seem to be very scared of the public response to this. Reddit is trying to ban any mention to Luigi (even Nintendo related ones), and also has banned many people who did as little as upvote a comment related to him.
