  • I truly wish all large vehicles were on rails. I saw two pedestrians almost get hit in two separate crosswalks today.

I’m honestly fine with traveling across an entire country taking a week or whatever (aka even without high speed rails).

Wish we could all slow down.

  • No one here is advocating for fossil fuels

  • I like your thoughtful take and that you didn’t leap to the assumption that I support fossil fuels. Renewables are the way, and we had renewables (windmills and such) before we had electricity.

  • Nuclear is only safe under the constant management of a stable global society. We don’t live in a stable society so I don’t support nuclear.

  • That doesn’t seem like an awful idea, but what about targeting the folks who are like “ah yeah that’s the 4532 from boston” when a plane goes past overhead

  • And which thing are they paying a price for?

  • This might only be tangentially related (are “management consultants” limited to staffing intervention?) but it’s been really difficult for small practices to adapt to the increased administrative workload brought by obama era electronic records compliance. Insurance companies and charting company (Epic) used the requirement as an opportunity to monopolize the charting software arena and, relatedly, to increase surveillance of doctors’ decisions by insurance agencies.

The insurance companies now regularly (roughly monthly) change requirements so that hospitals need to hire dedicated staff to keep their doctors up to date on how to fill out their charts with the exact right wording so that insurance companies will pay their portion. Practices that can’t afford to hire a dedicated administrative staff for this are going under. This makes it so only large practices are really able to afford to keep up with insurance regulations. I wonder if some of this consultant bloat was non-profit hospitals trying to adapt to this.

  • Starmer and the police are pretty quick to critique the only jewish contender, some might call it…

  • A family member of mine does mechanical keyboards— I don’t understand how ya’ll are able to memorize new layouts so quickly regardless of key caps! Someone should do some research on you guys.

  • I see, thank you for taking the time to explain!

I was wondering because I and my circles have started using it more for secondhand clothing and such to avoid amazon, target, walmart. Secondhand just feels less ethically exhausting to navigate these days.

But I can totally see how people buying old sewing patterns, specific lego pieces, and vintage jumpers p2p might not be very profitable.

  • At least as a game store, yes.

  • That list at the bottom. Sounds pretty sus.

  • She was arrested in December after denouncing the death of a lawyer, Khosrow Alikordi; prosecutor Hasan Hematifar told reporters then she had made provocative remarks at Alikordi's memorial ceremony.

Seven and a half years for “provocative remarks” at a funeral service

  • I was curious which ones they attributed to automation (which is only mentioned 4 times)

However, the analysis suggested that many layoffs are pre-emptive cost-cutting measures aimed at funding AI infrastructure, rather than a direct result of automation replacing jobs at scale.

Word. Threw it in the last sentence. A+ journalism.

  • It’s heartening to see so much high stakes solidarity happening even amongst the cowardice of institutions and politicians. Let’s all stubbornly stand up for humanity like these people.

  • I also think we need to do a better job propagating etiquette norms for theatre and musical performances. I’ve noticed a big decline in people knowing, for example, not to clap until the conductor lowers their hands in the past 5 years.
