  • I was saying the same thing just the other day, although in my case it was for something that was ”2 days ago" - totally unhelpful if you need to know the time it was posted! Just put an absolute date and time (and a timezone stamp if necessary).

  • Yeah, I agree - there's no need for people to be like that 👍

  • It'll always be football to me, but I'm not bothered by people saying soccer when they have something else they call football (which I'd call American football).

Online, if I'm in a place where there's likely to be ambiguity, I've taken to referring to football ⚽ and football 🏈 and that seems to do the trick.

  • I was at World Bowl 1996 to see the Scottish Claymores beat Frankfurt Galaxy. 38,000 people turned up at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, which (according to Wikipedia) is the largest ever crowd for a game of football 🏈 in Scotland. Great day, and I wish the Claymores were still going.

  • Funnily enough, I would refer to a department as "it" rather than "they" 😁

  • Aw man, I remember my kid having the Biff Chip and Kipper books, but we never got to the end of them as far as I know. That magic key bit was a real twist in what had thusfar been a pretty reality-grounded series. I need to go look up how that story progressed.

  • Now 4 - still got the vinyl I think 😁

  • Yeah, love Experience too, except for I think it maybe lacks the best mixes IMO of Charly (Alley Cat) and Everybody in the Place (Fairground). Can't remember 100% off the top of my head, but I think it's those two.

  • Always good to see someone pick ...Jilted Generation over Fat of the Land. I do like the latter, but MFTJG is perfection.

  • Great thread idea - you might also enjoy !albumartporn@lemmy.world, which has some pretty out-there covers.

I'll nominate Abraxas by Santana which has a lot to take in!

  • Ah ok, didn't know that. And yeah, the numbers just don't make sense at all! 😁

  • No, VAT is 20% (except maybe on a few very specific products)

  • I loved Ulysses 31, although I never really knew what was going on. It just looked amazing.

  • Can't speak for this specific instance of course, but in the UK you occasionally get people flying messages over football ⚽ grounds or whatever, and I have read more than once that the company doing the flying don't actually know what message they are pulling - they just get the packaged up message and fly it where the customer asks them to.

Don't know if that's true, though and it's arguable whether that absolves them completely of responsibility for the message being shown.

EDIT - that being said, the first example I found contradicts me - here, the message was known by everyone, including the pilot!

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26783751

EDIT 2 - a particularly nasty example here, where someone mentions banners not being checked. They definitely should have been.

    https://news.sky.com/story/outraged-airport-bans-banner-flights-after-white-lives-matter-burnley-stunt-12013293

"Due to the nature of the activity, banners are not checked before take-off and the content is at the operator's discretion."

  • And then if someone finds it, it'll be a UFO... oh wait...

  • Uh-huh. Uh-huh-uh-huh.

  • Driver 8 by R.E.M. is a great one. Will try to think of more 👍

    EDIT:

    EDIT 2

  • Subscribed, New, every time.

  • She's such a good mum. Taking the time to help Calvin, despite the bigger picture of the break-in.

  • It's pretty funny, I thought. Reminded me a little of Sam & Max, which is a good thing :-)
