  • Yeah, I freaked out a bit just now because CPU 9 crashed on my Mint box and I thought I'd lost my post in Firefox, but it was right there when I opened the right history tab.

I think I'm just going to avoid leaving voyager mid-composition. I can add external links and media after I submit.

  • That's great! I'm not here to invalidate anyone else's experience.

  • It's like the blind leading the blind here lol

Yes, I think it's that some people think that connection is about superficial similarity, so they might think you're not going to like them if you don't like the same things they like.

  • "I hate country" is a perfectly valid was of expressing that you hate what most people conceive of as "country" music--the stuff they hear on the radio, the socially normative trash to bottlefeed alcoholic manchildren through a thematically impoverished nipple of watered down rock.

But I agree with you that country has some really amazing range to it, though I'd have no idea where to listen to new stuff that doesn't suck.

  • I guess I see liking things and not liking things as equally valid insights into who people are.

  • Yeah, I can see in the context of someone talking about how they LOVE classic rock is would be a bad move; in those cases, I keep it to myself, or talk about what I do like about it... but in the absence of knowing their preferences, I blurt out my own, because I feel like that's part of THEM getting to know ME.

And thank you. Understanding that people are really just looking to bond over shared interests is helpful.

  • I stopped trying to bring up AI at my workplace since it was clear that management had decided it Was Very Important for People To Learn and the organization is nothing but a bunch of perfomative cocksuckers (or, to be gender neutral, providers of oral sex). Personally, I don't see much application of AI to a social welfare agency, but I know when stating my opinion is just going to alienate me even more. The reality is that learning AI is way to curry favor with management, and speaking against AI is a way for people to mark you as a troublemaker.

    Anyway, I quit on Sunday.

  • Yes, I meant boldly as in baldly, as in plainly, not as in authoritatively--it is just my personal preference.

  • Why is not liking something any more of a conversation stopper than liking something? I mean, if they don't like classic rock, they can talk about how they don't like classic rock, just as if they liked Charles Aznavour, we could talk about we like Charles Aznavour.

Like I have a story about getting SO sick of listening to classic rock at work and the same damn songs over and over again, that I went on Limewire or whatever it was and downloaded EVERY version of Bohemian Rhapsody I could find. I found a heavy metal version, I found an Australian Outback version, I found (of course) a bluegrass version, and (my favorite), a celtic version (Hibernian Rhapsody by De Dannan--go listen to it! It's amazing)!

I burnt them all onto a CD and casually popped it into the boom box that played the FM classic rock radio station all day. It started with the original Queen song so nobody suspected anything was amiss. Eventually, probably by the second cover version, people got upset (because they are boring as fuck) and so they went back to the radio.

Guess what the next song we had to listen to was.

I see a little siloheutto of a man!

  • Then where are the drafts that Voyager is saving?

  • There could be a little section for drafts? Fact is, I cóuldn't find my draft anywhere, and another user here says they never find theirs either.

As far as OS, I think I've had apps that never close out. I always assumed they dumped themselves to a swap file until I opened them again. ?

  • I spent an hour composing a post today; 20 minutes in I remembered what happened yesterday and finished it inside a text editor.

It may partially be an OS issue, but I couldn't find my draft in Voyager, which is a Voyager problem.

Also have to say I'm pretty disappointed in this community. It's great at describing how Voyager works, but most any suggestions for Voyager is met with cold indifference at best.

  • Your /s tag has me a bit confused.

I know what you mean about google, but you seem to be talking mostly about AI.

And, in this case, there is a standard manual that describes the diagnostic critera for anxiety and a bunch other stuff that is gonna have been cut-and-pasted a million times verbatim so even Google's AI is not going to fuck that up.

Anyway, the problem isn't that they're asking a simply searchable question, but combining that with their personal information is an invitation to violate rule 3.

  • I think everyone knows that advertising is relatively ineffective on a per-view basis, but they're hoping it at least pays for itself...

  • Yes, I'm sorry to have dragged him into this discussion because he does seem like a genuinely cool dude, but there is this DELICIOUS reference to High Fidelity (which I added to a comment).

He is also not really "classic rock" by radio standards these days, at least not FM radio standards; you can probably hear him more on pop oldies stations on AM.

One of the things I've noticed about FM Radio classic rock is how performatively masculine it is... Frampton is very much not like that.

  • I'm looking for something to practice my musical chops (melody and harmony), so more like a traditional instrmument where i have full control over every note than a mixing board.

  • Read the public polling. An extremist is someone that does something that only a small sliver of the public would support, but the genocide has pretty broad support among the Israeli public. Calling it extremism hides that reality.

And, yes, "extremism" can simply mean "violent" in a journalistic context, but there are natural implications.

  • That's great! I'm glad you got some solid help.

The world is a big place, so the "mental health" landscape can vary quite considerably. For instance, some places avoid treating bipolar or schizophrenia with medication UNLESS there is a crisis; otherwise, they are happy to let the person manage their lives as best they can with the help of a therapist.

However, in the United States, schizophrenia and bipolar people (and even the depressed and anxious) are constantly medicated despite harmful side effects.

I just posted my thoughts on what my issue is: specifically treating the totality of human experience as part of a "medical model of disease" and everything that goes along with it. If you're being treated like a whole person and your agency is being respected, you're working with people going upstream against all the implications of "mental health." [Edit: Also I think you're conflating psychiatry with "the medical model", but I'm (primarily) talking about how the medical model corrodes talk therapy.]

I can't really say more than "the system can definitely suck, and for structural reasons", but it doesn't always have to suck everywhere and in every instance.

And I find a lot of people don't like to hear any criticism of therapy or psychiatry, so I'm trying to create a space for people to discuss their experiences with the system and also to share resources and ideas for avenues that fall outside that system.

  • Bluntly and without artifice."i'm tired of classic rock'' or such.

As opposed to, "I like a lot of classic rock songs--I have a Zeppelin CD in my car right now--but, overall, I think I've heard enough of the limitted play list that's available on commercial radio."
