  • I had a horrible experience with psychosis earlier this year. The thing I never grasped before is how none of it appears like a hallucination like adventurous people might have experienced in other contexts. The whole thing appears real and totally credible. I had the spotlight effect and had become convinced there was some kind of conspiracy against me where the neighbours had dispatched assassins to my flat.

    I seriously doubt someone in the throws of a psychotic episode is able to consent in a meaningful way.

  • Given my work as a dev I've pretty much always got BBC Sounds on in the background while I'm working. Mainly Radio4 but also Radio6 for music and sometimes sports on Radio5 (Australian Open tennis is a personal favourite for cold winter mornings.)

    Women are slightly more than half the population (51%?) and experience the most harrassment. I think something needs to be done but maybe not a dystopian measure. How about a shared register of dangerous men made by competent devs (not outsourced) that don't leave the s3 bucket open to the intetnet unencrypted? Or - given that the police are useless - make the process of getting a restraining order more straight forward, require less evidence.

  • For balance, same friend - who I'd describe as a bit of a Tory boy stereotype - absolutely loves John Swinney. Apparently he is wonderful to work with and has a strong sense of civil duty. Makes it clear he never wanted the job but took it on as a duty to party and country.

  • I mean, their former treasurer and their Leader's spouse was just being put under further charges of forging documents relating to the donor irregularities. For some reason this whole corruption story has been brushed over by the media but it is damning. Civil servant friend told me the most senior civil servant in another department passed Nicola in the corridor and gave her a lecturer about money launderers not being wanted in the Scottish govt; granted this was a few days after it happened as it is unclear how estranged the couple were.

  • I use gentoo on my main PC and debian on an old Thinkpad.

    Debian is solid as a rock provided you don't edit the sources to make it a "FrankenDebian" where it is pulling in more recent packages like Ubuntu.
