  • Soldering sounds exciting, I think I get some definite nerd street cred for that -- "soldered own laptop" has a nice ring to it.

Be prepared for a "I tried soldering an RTC battery and magic smoke started escaping from my laptop" post soon!

  • Checked the BIOS and I couldn't see anything in there about power requirements for booting. I also haven't made any changes to my BIOS recently. I will go ahead see if I can update the BIOS just for redundancy, thank you!

  • Milled out of a solid block of 6063 aluminum, so I'm assuming more robust compared to the plastic

  • I've had a Framework 13 for coming up on 5 years now, and I've only had to replace the screen once: I over stuffed a laptop bag with 3 laptops through a cross country flight and when I pulled it back out the screen was dead. That was after about 2 years of daily use. I got a laptop sleeve to protect the laptop and haven't had any issues since.

I am thinking about getting the CNC lid, though, just to make it a little more robust.

  • Well to be fair, FBI would tap whatever VPS you use to host your email server and get your info from them. Email is not secure.

  • Naw dude, the takeaway here is that you're a pendantic prick.

  • My work has us call a helpdesk which verifies our ID (based off the number we're calling from and other info) then gives us a one-time password to reset all our login info

  • And as soon as you get an update all their shit is turned back on, and re-enabled, and edge (🤮) is back on the taskbar.... I hate microsoft so, so much.

  • I think you need a Windows server for that.

  • The assignment requires the database contents itself to be encrypted, not just where its stored, unfortunately.

  • I'm running a Pixel 9 with GrapheneOS as my daily driver as well, but I'm planning for future needs and/or the need to use a burner phone

  • Valid point, more specifically I'm talking about phones developed, manufactured, and sold by Chinese companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi.

  • Look into Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js for some pretty uncomplicated foundational level systems to build off of

  • Taekwando no won

  • No, it looks like someone modified one of those shitty little plastic flags you get on the 4th of July with some paper and a marker

  • Well I'm assuming if it can bypass the lock screen somehow it can pull encryption keys, or just let the user gain full access to the phone and open the signal app directly.

  • Man this thread was a rollercoaster. Seems like you ran into some incredibly fragile egos. For what it's worth, I switched my 73 year old dad and his business to ZorinOS (An Ubuntu-based distro designed for former Windows users to easily switch to Linux) with LibreOffice, Thunderbird, and Firefox. Granted he's a solo shop, but he was able to pick up ZorinOS fairly easily.
