  • I think your problem is that you are expecting the moderation there to be based on some sort of consistent, rational logic. and common sense. I know from personal experience that is just not the case and has not been for some years. The decisions are completely arbitrary and almost certainly automated (very badly too), the "decision was made without the assistance of automation" is utter bullshit.

    As for that rule 1 (Hate speech / inciting violence), I see it broken all the time there without consequences. I got a warning a few weeks back for hoping that the mullahs in Iran would meet the same fate that Mussolini and his fascist henchmen did at the end of WWII (hung upside down in a public square in Rome), something which was obviously totally theoretical and which nobody outside Iran can possibly influence let alone incite (I live in New Zealand, about as far removed from there as it is possible to be). Yet I see hatred and incitements to violence on reddit on the regular. Its completely inconsistent and as I said completely arbitrary. You are far from alone in this.

    I also got banned from a subreddit for - get this - thanking someone for some information they posted. Appealed it politely, no response of course.

    If it is any consolation, a permaban may not be all that permanent. My primary account which I'd also had for around the same time was banned two years back for posting a Google Streetview link of a layby (told you it was irrational) suddenly came back to life last week without warning. I'll probably use that instead of the temporary account I've been using in the interim.

    Dont worry about the ban evasion - if you create a new username/ login like I did, just make sure you are logged out of your old one on the same device while you are using the new one and you'll be golden. Their "moderation" system is in the wrong, not you, so go ahead and abuse it for all its worth, the sheer absurdity and inconsistency of it is in my view a justification to do what you like as long as you arent actually posting real hate speech or making real, credible threats of course

  • I dont think there was a decorator saying no, I dont think there was one full stop. Unbelievably hideous interior

  • I've been using Deezer for the last few years, and its (mostly) great

    Have used Spotify in the past, then went to google Play Music, then tried YouTube Music for three frustrating months before coming to Deezer.

    Deezer pluses;

    Absolutely awesome range, more music from more artists than any other service I've tried, and very little missing. They have every Johnny Cash album bar one, pretty impressive. Their Country and Western catalogue is unparalleled

    Although you can only download onto three devices, you have unlimited downloads on each one, as opposed to Spotify which limits you to just 50,000 tracks. I blew past that on my phone in three weeks. I cant see myself needing to download into more than three devices

    Good stable Android app, better even than Spotify, as good as GPM, and far far better than YTM. It isnt perfect, can be a little slow to load playlists sometimes, but I have only had to shut it down and restart it 2-3 times in almost a year of use. YTM had to be restarted 2-3 times a day, the Android app fell over more often than a drunk after happy hour.

    Great sound quality on mobile and web, I really cant fault it

    Good simple web interface too, and I can edit playlists and tracks fairly easily

    Good value for money - cheaper and better than the rest

    Apparently pays artists better

    Deezer minuses;

    Android app playlists only have a shuffle play button, and there is no way to change this to regular linear play in settings, even for Premium users, or disable shuffle across the app. This is the biggest flaw by far, and it is shared with Spotify. It is the only aspect of YTM that is superior

    The MP3 upload feature is a bit clunky and not terribly intuitive, and limited to only 2000 tracks. However this really doesnt matter as I havent needed to upload much music at all as practically everything I want is available on Deezer anyway

    Editing big playlists on the web interface can be a sluggish and buggy, especially moving around large blocks of tracks. Was a bit frustrating when I needed to edit playlists I'd moved across from YTM, I found that often it was easier to just delete almost all the tracks and rebuild from scratch. Now all my playlists are cleaned up it isnt a major - building new playlists works fine

    You need to favourite a lot of artists and/or tracks to get the automated recommendations after a playlist finishes to work properly (as opposed to Flow which just works off one artist). Artist exclusions dont seem to work, but now I have favourited 190 artists that doesnt seem to be an issue now. Minor glitch though

  • I used reddit on desktop, didnt have an ad blocker, ocassionally clicked on ads (usually by mistake), and bought a shitload of coins. I also contributed a lot of content that people found helpful. Didnt stop me getting perma banned for reasons that I still dont understand.

    I really dont think there is any algorithm or any logic or rationale behind the ban process at all, its almost completely aritrary

  • I can barely manage just the one. I dont know how people can juggle multiple accounts. I would get so confused

  • What a fever dream of a house. The architect must have been indulging in a lot of acid or cocaine or mushrooms or all of the above and more

  • What is varishangout..net? Initially read it as yarishangout.net and wondered why a space for Toyota Yaris owners got defedded. Also wondering how stereophonic.space got defedded?

  • Oh please, its been terrible for years now and we all know it. Not in every sub, but the top level ones absolutely are

  • Dictator chic on a budget

  • Its not the theme or the going with it, it how badly they went with it. That ceiling decoration in the lounge is so .... wrong. And you can buy repro ornate ceiling mouldings that would actually look OK if applied correctly too

  • First time I landed in Australia on the Gold Coast I followeed a bin chicken for 20 minutes with a camera trying to get the perfect picture like it was some rare exotic bird. I'm sure the locals were sremoveding or openly laughing behind my back, I dont blame them

  • We dont have much in the way of animals but we have birds. The Tui is common in suburban gardens here, but they are beautiful and even as a local I still like seeing them. Pukekos are everywhere but for those from the UK/ Europe/ USA they're prett exotic. Down South, Wekas are absolutely everywhere outside the cities and will walk right into people's homes - I once experienced coitus interruptus when a Weka jumped up on the bed I was in with a guy.

    When I was in South Africa I was super excited to see baboons, locally considered something of a nuisance. And in Queensland, Australia, the first time I saw an Australian white ibis, locally known as a bin chicken, the locals must have been very amused to see me chasing it with a camera getting photos

  • This SO much. I was involved some years ago with a non profit, run by a guy with significant personal wealth. He burnt through nearly a million bucks, and did manage to get some change to happen , but it was incredibly difficult and incredibly slow, even with the backing and support of a number of other wealthy and connected individuals plus mass public support as well.

  • Somebody needs some driver training!

  • I will still look for a jack on my next phone, current Samsung has one, will likely buy another so I will probably buy top of their entry range

  • Now this.... this is seriously strange. Strongest contender so far. Their track "Subways" is also quite something

  • Workplaces were the worst, I kept catching other people's second hand smoke at work. Worst was when I went to an encounter group type thing and a guy was smoking and I got a faceful.... and bronchitis for the rest of the trip. And that was in the 90's

    At least in my own home and car I could set the rules and rules was take that shit outside
