  • Yeah others are mentioning too, I'll need to study a bit on this mango stuff to see what I can get away with :)

  • Thanks, indeed the performance ui shows battery, but with a lot of other things. Others have said it can be customized further so this is definitely the way to go.

  • Thank you so much for that! That plugin seems like something I would rather want. I prefer it to suspend before it completely shuts down if I'm dumb enough to still be playing :)

I need to study this mangopeel, see what is possible and what not.

    Again thank you!

  • The warning is not good enough for me. I need something more persistent. But yes, I do have that and still I have managed to somehow miss it or not pay enough attention the battery was going down too fast.

  • Oh wow thank you. I had missed those! They are fairly distracting as they are by default, but I'm sure I can figure out something thanks to your link!

  • I actually don't understand what is being portrayed in that post, what is the issue there? Maybe I am lacking some background information?

The original post by Muntashir Akon says that someone has registered his apps, but his image says something different, it says that the package name is registered in play already. And the app registration is not opened for those in Play.

I'm guessing he hasn't added his apps in the play store and that's what he means by someone taking over his app name? Just trying to understand...

Then the account of keep android open talks of an assault on fdroid. Which seems an overreach from the previous post and image, unless there's a lot of background well known that is missing from this particular context.

Now, I'm not defending google, I do think they are on full power grab with android and want to reduce the openness of it, and they can go fuck off with that shit. I just don't see how it all relates in this case.

If a dev would only publish in the past in fdroid, there was nothing stopping anyone from using your app id to upload something to the play store, right? So this whole developer verification doesn't seem to be the root cause here.

But that's assuming muntashir meant exactly that by having impersonators. If muntashir had uploaded the apps to the play store, then the message in the image seems to mean that because the package name is the same as in play he can't register it yet. Maybe that has an effect for fdroid but I can't see how quite yet.

OK I missed that I could gain more details opening the post by Muntashir (first thought it was a screenshot).

"UPDATE: #Google seems to have fixed the issue anyway. I was able to register both App Manager and Captive Portal Controller in the Android developer verification console."

"Google has added an “other ways to verify” option now. So, now it may be possible to bypass the 50% rule."

So it seems the issue was not impersonators, the issue was not fdroid, and there's no attack whatsoever with his apps from google or anyone. It's just a shitty implementation of this whole developer registration that just shouldn't even exist and yes, the whole registration is an attack on devs and open source, but the issues this dev was facing are not an example of it. This is not a story of a developer under attack because he doesn't want to be registered. This is a story of a developer who is following suit with google and registering, and finding the beta system is shit.

  • Hmm not necessarily, accidentally has no negative implication unlike accident usually has. In this particular case the meaning of accidentally is synonym with unexpectedly or by chance.

  • OK there's now a link in the post, unfortunately to x but it will have to do for now. It is posted by Dogru's account too, so clearly it will show his point of view. But he does seem a lot more sensible than this post was:

“The federal government and its institutions have systematically selected us as a target: first me, then my wife, and now our toddlers and infants are affected. This decision deliberately endangers the welfare and health of our children,” he says. He argues that this contradicts not only international law, but also the German Basic Law, which guarantees the protection of children’s welfare. ... “The aim of these measures is to break me and my family. The authorities are going so far as to knowingly endanger the health and well-being of infants,” says Doğru. “A possible next stage of escalation could consist of taking our children away from us—based on a situation created by the authorities themselves.”

As for the topic in this post, as bad as it is for Dogru and his family, they are still allowed to use some money it seems, just not enough for everything:

Although the German Federal Bank had allowed the journalist to use 506 euros per month for basic needs, according to the court payments beyond that amount were not covered.

There's definitely a worse part on all this:

The lawyer said that his client is not permitted to receive monetary donations and is also not allowed to accept food assistance. When asked whether a neighbor could already make himself liable to prosecution by bringing Doğru bread, Gorski answered: “Yes, the neighbor would theoretically make himself liable to prosecution.”

What the fuck is that about... How does that make any fucking sense. Now, that pisses me off to no end.

Fortunately there seems to be a lot more movement on this than it seemed implied at first. I hope their family manage to solve this and fast and those assholes that started this get to pay ten fold.

  • On the one hand I agree, what is this "quite literally the European Union is starving kids"? I'm going to need some information about how the European Union is in charge of Germany for blocking someone's bank account and how they are starving kids "literally".

What seemingly has happened is terrible, and you are a bit misguided on the "the mother should be able to plan ahead", but they are not being tortured, they are not imprisoned without food... They shouldn't have to go through this but they have options and alternatives, even if it is going to charities, food banks or else. The whole idea implied that the EU is forcibly starving some kids is crazy and makes me have real trust issues here with how this is "reported". Unfortunately I have no issues either thinking that this is being used as coercion or censoring by threatening the family of an unruly reporter. I hope this gets properly investigated and hopefully the wronged parties get compensation but the amount of people here falling for the ragebait or just pushing for it is terrible. I'll have to loom for some sources to understand better the situation, if it is as represented in the post, this needs to go widely known.

  • As a random internet user, I want to remind you, are we sure even if humans are that intelligent to begin with? All those steps you give, are not needed for intelligence.

We keep moving the goal post for what intelligence is, and last I saw we have started to divide intelligence into different categories.

LLMs are just "imitate as closely as possible human responses" for good and for bad. And now we are trying to fix that to be as right as possible, when the flaw is that we as humans are mostly always wrong.

  • Ok... What is wrong with you?? You come here to post this kind of stuff... Just to enjoy while you destroy lives?? And if that mesmerizing ball building game doesn't work, then you go with a side-hit and talk about that Breakout 71?

Shame! Shame on you! Stop trying to destroy people's lives! When my wife complains about this breakout game I will tell her it is your fault!

  • Thanks for the extra details! I mean, it does make sense the way you are guiding the use case for the project. It's just not my use case :)

In any case kudos for the job you've done!

  • Hey, pussies are great, don't compare them to that idiot.

  • Very promising! If I understand correctly though, I can't even create a note in offline mode to sync later? That would be a bit of a deal breaker for me personally. I couldn't see much details on e2ee either, but maybe I missed that. Anyway, really well done!

  • This is surprising... And completely unmanageable from a user's point of view. In order to find what licenses it has I need to browse folder by folder in the code, instead of, you know, having a list of licenses and where they apply.

On a quick look I saw only two places with a special license, one is the example indicated by the developer of the server package which is an odd license that gives me pretty bad vibes for my lack of legal knowledge but probably is ok? It might even be reasonable, but what is the server package? Is that the server I self host? Or the server for paid Joplin? Then I found some other code that was an MIT license... But how deep do I need to go searching in the folder structure to find all licenses? This is irritating. I guess I gotta consider changing to something else then if only to be able to know what license I am using.

Also... What is the legal implications of using a software than upon any update might suddenly add a weird random license? Would that mean I am expected to keep checking all foldernevery time they change something?

  • Not OpenAI, please! Do not attack the servers! Save the ram first!

  • Couldn't Frodo have thrown the ring into one and hope it eventually goes to Mordor's volcano? Anyway good luck retrieving it in there :)
