  • Was skyward sword the one where you could only save the game at special totems? One of the games i flat out quit at the first dungeon because you couldn't save where you wanted to like every other one before... why change that?

  • I'm still a bit green to all of it. Would that antenna work with the P1-Pro? Would that RF filter be helpful to have?

  • The first few things that jump out to me are, the smoke isn't coming out of the front stack, instead it's coming out of a second stack thats more in the style of an older steam tractor. The second stack and subsequent second smaller steam engine are where a tender box should be. Worst of all is the illustration of the connecting rods/tie rods, i don't think even a lazy human who'd gone so far as to make the whole image would get that sloppy drawing them so non uniform.

Even if you didn't know much about steam locomotives spending more than 5 second absorbing and processing the contents of the image would tell you the smoke is in the wrong spot and the rods that make it go look bad. That is assuming you've seen a steam locomotive, which i imagine is the bulk of anyone with access to the internet.

  • The opposite of scared me, i'm more interested than ever but i think that antenna would put the whole project out of my price range at this time. Whatever i pick will be out in rural country side, rolling hills and plenty of trees, and will be mounted up on a decommissioned wooden telephone pole. Would a beefy antenna make enough of a different to justify being added?

  • This looks like my best bet. Batteries and metal mount included really sell me on it. I saw mention of upgrading the antenna have you tried that or felt the need to?

  • I believe the go to recommendation now days is a reolink camara and frigate as your nvr os. My understanding is both can operate fully locally when blocked from accessing the internet at the firewall level.

  • I picked up a steam deck just before the holidays and this was one of the first few games i played on it and across 4-5 weeks i put nearly 50 hours into it. It's so fun/addicting i couldn't put it down.

One of the best parts, for me, is under accessibility settings you can turn off damage and magic drain making you immortal wth endless magic in the combat side of things. As someone who isn't the biggest rogue-like fan this was perfect. As couple stress free dives for resources and advancing the story then right back to my silly little farm for hours.

  • My understanding is that the steam deck can emulate switch 1 games reliably

  • I remember your posting this last year. Know that thanks to your actions a small part of him lives on in my memories now. Please continue to share this every year.

  • This makes total sense. Taxes are for public benefit. Assets offered in place of taxes are now fully public domain, for the benefit of the public.

  • Amazon hasn't ruined invincible. I'd argue it's better than the comics and each season it's better than the last.

  • I don't know if this is true but i once read that when classifying lighter-than-air ships they broke them down into two categories. A rigid and B limp and that's where the name blimp comes from.

  • Sonos speakers will miss the mark on price, they're fairly expensive, but have a home assistant integration and can be blocked at the firewall from accessing the internet making them 100% local. I was lucky to get a couple on sale when ikea stopped carrying them and their quality can't be beat.

  • Using home assistant and a smart speaker i've done what you're wanting to do. Added bonus is when going to bed I press a button to turn off most of my automations and the same button to turn them on in the morning. That way if my sleep cycle changes on the fly the chimes change with it. I've also got the added bonus of being able to use whatever chime or sounds i want.

But that's probably overkill for what you want, unless you want to pick up the hobby of home automation.

  • I've lost count of the number of times and number of formats in which i've consumed The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and i've loved it every time.

  • I have a few Reolink POE cameras(and poe doorbell) with an old mini pc running frigate, all on a battery backup so if the power goes for a bit the cameras and recording don't. I also have a coral tpu installed in the mini pc.

All of my cameras are blocked at the firewall from leaving the network and they function fully, 100% local. When i plugged in the poe cable the cameras grabbed an ip address and you can interact with them through that.

As others have said there is also a home assistant integration for reolink that let's you import and control the cameras from within home assistant as well as a frigate integration. I prefer having frigate on it's own box so when i need to reboot home assistant my cameras are still recording.

Once it's all set up you can have live video feed for each camera accessible within home assistant, on your dashboard if you like, as well as access to clips and continuous recordings depending on frigate configuration and storage capacity.

  • An option no doubt but there's two reasons i'd not want to go that route unless necessary. First, i already have the device on hand and would like to find a solution to what i currently have. Two, i'd like to keep zone based motion if i'm able. Second of these can still be achieved by getting more sensors and blocking them into the zones i want but for one of my current sensors i'd have to buy three new ones.
