  • My Slack used to bug out or something and show me as away or offline constantly. My boss would call me and accuse me of slacking off when I was actually too hyper-focused on my work to notice

  • I went to Paris once. I saw someone walking 14 dogs at once (I counted). Dogs were everywhere. I also saw zero doggie bags and hundreds of dog shits all over the pavement. The smell was horrific. C'est la vie

  • I always believed that God would accept anyone, even if they don't believe, as long as they were good people. I can't imagine He would just turn away the kindest people because they were born on the other side of the planet. But I don't get along with fundamentalists.

  • I use swipe to type on my phone which has weird mistakes sometimes (like three instead of the). I tried to write pantries and didn't notice it left out an r lol. I'm leaving it because it's funny

  • I'm not here to argue. I think you're conflating multiple things here. Vegetarianism is lower pollution yes, but it's still delivered via truck or ship, it's still usually plastic wrapped, etc. Pollution is systemically embedded in our entire society and economy, so blaming consumers is only blaming the smallest part of the problem.

If everyone in the world tomorrow stopped buying anything that was polluting... They'd probably starve to death. Our farms and logistics are simply not designed for this. It's all been "optimised" for the lowest cost to companies and consumers both. The only solution is to start at the top and work your way down.

Let's say you're a company that sells food. You care about the environment so you switch everything to green. Electric trucks and ships. No plastic packaging. Your operating costs triple, and you fall behind all your competitors. Most customers don't understand, don't care, or cannot afford your more expensive products, especially in this economy. You go out of business. The only way to make it work is to reshape everything so that pollution is no longer an integral part of everything. I don't know what that would look like though, I'm not that smart.

  • That's it, I'm going back to postal letters

  • Redbacks suck, but usually don't kill unless you're a baby, elderly, or of weak constitution. They tend to hide in dark corners like panties and sheds and such. They are scared of you and will hide when you come stomping along. Most bites are accidental squashing, like reaching into the back of the pantry and crushing the spider against the wall. They only rarely bite humans. You'll have a bad time for a few days but you probably won't die.

Sydney funnel web spiders are the deadly ones. They are one of the most venomous spiders in the world. They hide in shoes and clothes often, and will almost always bite you when disturbed this way. They can kill within 15 minutes of bite. They are only toxic to humans and monkeys due to a quirk of biology which affects our nervous system and heart, they are harmless to other animals. However, even so, there's only ever been 13 recorded deaths, and none for 40 years, due to a potent antivenom existing. Generally if you're severely unwell and they can see a spider bite they will antivenom you just to be safe.

So really even though spiders and sharks are scary they're statistically very safe. You're more likely to die in the shower

  • Too obvious. We have this weird thing where most kinds of masculine compensation is a sign of weakness or cheating and un-masculine. See: toupees, codpieces, Viagra, HRT, high heels, steroids, makeup, plastic surgery, padded shoulders. It has to be "natural" or at least convincingly so or it won't be accepted

  • Actually most people I've run into here have been super chill and nice, which is a nice surprise. Like a 1:100 asshole to niceness ratio. Compared to Reddit anyway where it feels like the assholes outnumber everyone else 😂

There's this thing some people believe that blocking is letting them win. Nah, fuck 'em. Blocking is protecting your nervous system from needless negativity. Those micro cortisol spikes add up fast.

  • Downvote does have negativity associated with it. But it's important to separate:

    1. "This person doesn't agree with me"
    2. "This person hates me"
    3. "My idea is stupid and bad"
    4. "Everyone here hates me"
    5. "I'm a stupid and bad person"

For a lot of us, it's an automatic defensiveness pipeline from start to finish. The hard part is drawing a line between each concept without your emotions bleeding up/down into other categories. If you master this skill, it can help you in other parts of your life you mentioned in the comments.

    Good luck! ✧*。ヾ(´∀`*)ノ

  • A lot of people online seem to actually enjoy arguing and starting fights. It's very strange

  • Can you explain why blocking is considered a negative thing? To me it just means protecting myself from a person that upsets me

  • Hell yeah. For some reason my soul is the shape of an amorphous cloud. Like a nebula, or a fart. It has its pros and cons, but it is what it is, I haven't figured out anyway to change it.

I never thought maybe others would have different shapes or forms, that's super interesting.

  • I've never heard of otherkin before today. The more you know

  • I have this weird thing after weed where I slow down. Like my perception of the world and time slows down to the point where walking is painful because my steps are too slow. Try walking where each step takes a full 6 seconds, it's actually hard work. Nobody can understand me either because I'm talking too slowly. The dangerous part is gravity stays normal so I can't stop myself falling over like a statue if I fuck up 😂. I haven't found anyone else yet where this weirdness happens to them. No anxiety though, so that's a plus

  • Better than some suicidal pilots

    Is this a common occurrence?

  • Are you confusing "race" and "species"?

    Wikipedia:

Race is a categorization of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into groups generally viewed as distinct within a given society.

  • You just described why I quit Reddit lol. Found myself feeling tense even with I put the phone down

  • People are being weird to you, but I just wanna say that raising a child and co-living with a life partner are completely different things and skill sets.

There's no rule book that says you need to have a partner to have a child or raise them well. Ignore anyone who says this. If you just got out of a toxic relationship, it's completely normal and healthy not to want to jump back in the dating pool. I got out of an abusive relationship a few years ago, and I have 0 plans to remarry or even open a dating app.

The average relationship takes a huge amount of work, often fails, and the average divorce time is 10 years. If you don't want to deal with another adult for a while, there's zero shame. You're not doing it wrong, you're not missing anything vital. You probably already know all this but I'm just giving reassurance.

Kids are much simpler than adults, but harder work. You can get into a routine and life kind of goes on autopilot, and you solve problems as they come up. It's hard work but it's typically uncomplicated work, without the emotional manipulation.

Only one warning I will say: make sure you're in a good headspace going into it. The last thing you want is for any unresolved damage from the relationship to come out as an emotional reaction to something your child does. Then it turns into generational trauma.

    Good luck ✧*。ヾ(^.^)ノ
