Hello, my name's Allen. I'm here to share my various train photos, news, and advocacy.

Focused mainly on British Columbia, Ontario and the PNW, sometimes I will post a couple other adventures from where I've gone!

My original photos may be used under the terms of the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. Feel free to send a message for other uses or any questions. I can speak and write terrible-quality French (français) and mediocre Japanese (日本語).

  • The Union-Pearson Express flyover! Cool shot @troyunrau!

  • @cabbage @cecilkorik @brianpeiris There's an initiative in the works to try and answer these questions, forming a co-operative structure dedicated to hosting video platform(s) in a way that can support the needs of creators, viewers and supporters. Focused on Canadian content but hoping to create a widely replicable model. It's polling for names and other feedback right now, have your say:

  • @Multiplexer That's correct. It's on a busy bridge for automobile traffic, so the light does not change until the cyclist or pedestrian buttons are pressed.

  • @MultiplexerNormally, it points left or right to indicate the direction of crossing.

  • City Life @beehaw.org

First time I've seen the pedestrian crossing button pointing downward

  • @HellsBelleThis is the right move. Imagine if politicians were paid only for the time they were at their seat.

Railroad unions have followed the process by the book, and there's still no resolution after being in court for a year now:

Being forced to go back to a job under-compensated is an untenable situation here. Something needed to be done lest we lose our right to collective labour action.

The RailDriver train simulator controller only has official Windows support.

After reading the technical documentation from the makers, I cobbled together a "driver" that reads input messages then puts it out as a virtual device like an xbox controller.

With two translation layers, and with calibration required every time, I am able to play TrainSimWorld with it, because out of the box it can't seem to recognize it.

  • Boycott US @lemmy.ca

38.1% fewer Canadians returned to Canada by road from the US last month compared to May 2024.

  • AskACanadian @lemmy.ca

Canadians, what do you think Carney's government will realistically be able to accomplish in 30 days, in terms of interprovincial trade?

  • @sbv

As a young person under 35, 3 word slogans from the Conservatives were never going to help me.

I do feel hope for Canada through Mark Carney, because he strikes me as someone who does stuff, rather than just says stuff. Words I like to hear alone won't fix my future. #cdnpoli #carney #elxn45

Sorry in advance folks, I couldn't figure out how to make a Link Post from Mastodon.

Also frightening is Trump's reaction to this on Truth Social, casually referring to himself as king:

"CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!"

Any model railroad enthusiast want to expand their 1:1 scale collection?

  • Trains @lemmy.ml

Some transit vehicles on "The T" in Boston recently received googly eyes, spurred on by a local campaign.

  • Our third participant and final challenger: in the southwest corner is the Seattle Monorail. Even if it is the shortest, oldest, most expensive to ride, and has the fewest stops of the three, it will not be outdone as it soars above the city at a higher speed to Seattle Center.

  • In the northwest corner, we have a challenger, the Seattle Streetcar South Lake Union Line (known informally as the South Lake Union Trolley). Traveling to Lake Union, this train is sponsored at nearly every stop and is wrapped from head to toe. Will the funny abbreviated nickname be enough to take on its competition?

  • In the southeast corner, we have the match favorite, the Link Light 1 Line!

Traveling underground through the Westlake area, the link light is sure to take you the farthest, from Northgate to all the way past the airport.
