I used to be on kbin as e0qdk@kbin.social before it broke down.

  • Isn't there also a chemical method to do it? I'm not a chicken farmer though. Maybe even with that it doesn't make sense economically.

Still though, it feels like there's an opportunity there that a creative marketing campaign could exploit to transform what's currently a waste product into something more valuable. If not "Premium Chicken" then maybe "Ethical Rooster Meat" or an "Eat the patriarchy!" angle or something. Selling the sizzle rather than the steak, so to speak...

  • That's one of the things about the current industrial processes that I don't get. Capons (neutered roosters) used to be prized over regular chicken, and they're much easier to keep than regular roosters. You'd think someone would try diverting at least some of the male chicks from the macerator to market as "Premium Chicken" or something.

  • I'd sweeten the evaporated milk (i.e. make sweetened condensed milk out of it) then use that to make Thai Iced Tea.

I'd also cook up some fried rice.

I don't have the right ingredients (e.g. Jasmine rice) on hand to make a good Thai-style fried rice without going to the store, so I'd probably just make one of my usual (more Chinese/Japanese influenced) fried rice variants and serve the pineapple diced up on the side. There are pineapple fried rice recipes though (including some that call for serving the rice inside the hollowed out pineapple) which might be fun to try if I made a store run with these ingredients in mind.

  • Probably hundreds of millions or billions if you include things like washing machines, dish washers, automated gates, garage openers, etc. that automate specific tasks. Just the read/write arms in hard disks alone is probably a staggeringly huge number, if we're counting things like that...

  • Took me longer than it probably should've to realize that said "Rustia" rather than "Russia" -- was getting some real "Brazilian Arabia" vibes (from old EU4 memes) for a moment there.

  • Huh. I thought Tails was sitting on a rock with Hakase just petting him from behind (with body hidden), but now I'm not sure. That does look like her toes on the right there...

    Touch Fluffy... Tails? (slyger ex)

  • Based on what I see on my Steam Deck (not sure on Bazzite specifics), it looks like the WINE prefixes are stored in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata

I think the number in each folder name is the game's steam ID, which makes it a bit cryptic. You can probably find that ID by running grep -i "name of game" *.acf in the steamapps folder. The files are named like appmanifest_STEAMID.acf, if I understand how this works correctly. You might also just be able to search for the file you're looking for directly though if you know what the name is inside the prefix and it's distinct enough.

  • Glad you got outside and were able to get things sorted out without too much trouble! Having gone from "complete shut-in" back to "goes outside at least once in a while" myself, I will say it gets easier the more you do it.

  • Isn't it supposed to be a file? (Maybe that's your issue?) Is this the first time you're setting up this VM or are you trying to move it from somewhere else?

Assuming first time, I'd expect you'd create a disk image to install to, load an ISO for the distro into the simulated optical drive, and then boot from the optical drive and format the blank disk inside the VM. I don't know what VirtualBox specifically does, but that seems like the kind of thing there should be a wizard for; there is in other VM software, at least, for creating new VMs...

If you're trying to migrate an existing VM between computers, I'd expect you'd just copy the disk image file and recreate the machine metadata to make sure it points to it correctly and you should be good...? Could be some VB specific crap I'm unaware of though.

  • Hmm. I assume the "Inaccessible" is what you're trying to fix? Is the vdi file where it's supposed to be (on your host system) -- like, it didn't get deleted or quarantined by anti-virus or fucked around with by OneDrive or something like that, right?

I don't use VirtualBox or Win10, so my ability to help here is limited, but sanity checking that the file is OK is where I'd start.

  • Not really. I'm just in kind of a snarky mood. 😛️

  • When I linked to it a few days ago, it looked blue/black to me. Later that day (and still currently as of writing), I see white/gold. I think the same thing happened when I first ran into it but that was too long ago for me to be sure.

  • So, my taxes are paying for this, huh? Do I get to watch the movie for free then? 🤨️

  • At this point, it's been down long enough that setting up a Unix Surrealism community somewhere else is reasonable, IMO.

  • Running the timer and retry logic from a deterministic (non-LLM based) control script? Hmm. Was the context in a bad state after the timeout, and it thought it had already done the failed instructions perhaps? I haven't used Coder-Next specifically.

If you've got things working solidly now without it then great! Maybe revisit the idea though if you do start bumping into long unproductive loops again. In my case, I was seeing it happen occasionally with a complicated one-shot image analysis prompt and a Q4 version of the model.

  • Qwen kept getting into these loops, sometimes running for hours doing nothing productive.

Use a timeout mechanism and then retry or fail as appropriate; I'm doing that to avoid getting stuck forever in loops with a lower quantization qwen3.6 model that I'm doing image analysis with for work currently.

  • The town's blacksmith has been coerced into cooperating with a whimsically evil group of enchanters -- any weapon or accessory they work on secretly gets a nefarious spell put on it that makes tavern keepers overcharge you. It's part of a conspiracy to crash the ale economy so the enchanters can take over the taverns and jack up the prices for real! Or... maybe that's just what they want you to think and they're actually going to enchant the ale too with a more powerful magic that only works via ingestion -- allowing the enchanters to mind control the intoxicated adventurers and get them into incredibly silly misadventures that they can watch remotely as entertainment!

  • Might be this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Vk6hANjLeU

YT thinks I'm a bot and has me blocked for some reason, so can't confirm.

On the original CD-ROM, it was SOUND/RADIO/STATIONS/Bluegrass/MUSIC/sp.WAV

Probably the best song in the game. Certainly the most memorable!

  • I think I'd get bored pretty quick just driving around with no goal -- although, I did have a fair amount of fun driving around Streets of Sim City as a kid and probably spent more time messing around my own SC2K maps than I did with the actual game missions, so I could be wrong about how bored I'd get of a pure driving simulator...

Regardless of whether I'd enjoy it, I have family members who I'm pretty sure would find it right up their alley -- especially the classic car aspect.

  • If it's sold as a separate soundtrack, typically no. Usually they're just MP3, FLAC, or WAV files -- sometimes you get a choice, sometimes not.
