  • Yeah Discord has been wacky on Linux lately, they pushed maybe 4 different updates the past week that forced you to update the package immediately.

Pro tip: Sync the package manager database before trying to update. It could tell you there are no updates when it's just pacman being out of date.

  • Performance should be relatively the same across every distro, there are benchmarks online you can check. I didn't like Bazzite with my short time using it though, being immutable means you have to jump through hoops to install something that isn't available as a flatpak. Like I mentioned in another comment the battery life was also not great, and I found it to be a little slow in general.

  • When I'm on battery I mainly use the browser. When I'm plugged in it's usually gaming.

  • Battery life is really good, on par with Windows on my current laptop. For some reason battery life was really bad on Bazzite, like 30% worse or so. I don't know how it compares to other distros.

  • I switched to Cachy 2 months ago and I think my distro hopping days are over. It's so, so responsive and reliable. People scared me off arch-based distros for being bleeding edge but so far it's been very stable, I haven't encountered any major issues.

If you're thinking about switching, do it. Switched off from Bazzite and I'm not looking back.

  • I don't get it, isn't the point of the union to bargain with Kickstarter themselves? What will a bunch of random signatures from internet users change?

  • Yes, it should work just fine. Use something like Lutris or Heroic Game Launcher.

  • I was in both communities at the time... Only the OGs will remember when the only thing we had to go off of Elden Ring was a random rumor that called it Great Rune.

  • It looks fantastic, I'm glad they took their time with it and didn't cave to release it early.

Bloomberg also did an interview with the team which is a good read.

  • See also: Bloomberg interview with the team on why it took so long.

Seems like the TLDR is just they were working on it and didn't want to spoil anything. That's why they were radio silent. They also expected it to release way earlier but the game kept ballooning in scope.

  • We made it. We freakin' made it. I hope it's a shadowdrop because I don't wanna wait much longer.

  • It lets you scale SVGs in real-time with really good results, so yeah microscope-level zooming on SVGs look fantastic. I haven't tested performance yet but it seems totally fine on smaller games and GUI apps.

Unfortunately it works for everything EXCEPT tilemaps. There's a PR that fixes it but it's slated for after 4.5 (so likely 4.5.1)

That said, once that gets fixed I'll try to do a fully SVG game. See the video in the PR for how it looks.

  • This has huge potential and I already love the UI they have, but it's still in very early alpha if anybody is wondering. There aren't any transitions or animations or anything yet, and the export button just rick rolls you (yes, really).

  • Agreed. I'm starting Dawn of Sorrow now and man, that game suffers from the most generic early-mid 2000's anime art style. The portraits are very uninspired, and I think Soma Cruz maybe has the most boring main character design in the franchise. He's the generic anime pretty boy with a cool coat.

The game's still very fun though, but I just can't take the character portraits seriously.

  • Start at Symphony of the Night then make your way up! I wouldn't recommend playing the '80s and '90s Castlevania games unless you enjoy borderline unfair arcade games.

  • Yup, it has a lot of great changes and fixes that I'm anticipating. Things like tilemap collision chunking, better UI scaling, proper SVG support, big 3D improvements, etc.

  • I know it's great that Reddit is getting less useful but it's still infuriating that I can't find any help on very specific issues where the only answer was that one deleted comment/post.

  • It's for alternate Reddit front-ends and rarely ever works.
