  • Victim blaming would apply to the people abducted or killed by ICE. Last time I checked the US was still a democracy, with a very low level of participation.

So yeah. There might not be a single cause to the rise of fascism in the US, but apathy and ignorance of the general population definitely has something to do with it.

  • As November approaches, US cops look more and more like they're preparing for something bad to happen

  • Same here, but a lot of my old acquaintances seem to have been only performatively open-minded in their younger years...

  • Just wait til millenials or Gen Z turn 40...

  • No she doesn't. She said she deleted them. From the Politico article:

Racicot said she later deleted all her texts and social media correspondence with Platner as she tried to move on from the assault, and said she has not been able to recover the Instagram messages she sent him about the incident.

The other messages are ambiguous (they do not mention rape), or are a few weeks old, between her and her therapist.

  • They are allegations, but he probably did. But did you know it's not illegal to run for senator when you have been convicted of a felony?

In a representative democracy, the rational way to go is to vote for the person who you think will vote on the same side as you on issues you care about. You're not choosing a friend or someone you will interact with on a regular basis.

Republicans understood this a long time ago. Billionaires understand it too, that's why they give money to candidates they think are more susceptible to return the favor.

Purity tests are something you have to put aside when your country is sliding into fascism... Otherwise you're giving an advantage to the other side.

  • I think the problem right now is not the justice system because the case is still at the investigation phase, and there seems to be a lot of obstruction going on.

  • I get that a lot of people need two jobs, that there is no safety net, that education is expensive, etc.

But let's not forget that, even though the middle class has been shrinking in the last decades, there is still a significant part of the US population is doing "ok", people for whom feeding the kids tonight or keeping their house is not always on their mind.

A lot of Republicans elected Trump on the promise that he would release the files. He didn't, nothing happened, and now he's openly defying a judgement.

    Apathy is a real problem.

  • China has said that they cannot afford Russia to lose.

I fail to see why that would be the case. I feel they would actually benefit from a beaten and isolated Russia.

  • Well, there have been a few signs in the recent primaries that they should move a bit to the left of they want to follow their constituents. Whether they do remains to be seen, but they won't need to if the right is divided.

  • This is exactly why you need to vote in the primaries.

  • LOL

  • Yeaaah but the Dems would see this as an easy win and so wouldn't have any incentive to change.

  • I am so, so tired of this belief that "powering the economy" = spending, implying that we need the wealthy for economic survival...

  • You seem to be doing some sort of weird fear mongering... Can you elaborate on what you consider dangerous with AI?

  • I don't think he's a nazi

Well if you don't, why are you focussing so much on the tattoo? Just file it under "stupid things he did when he was younger" and move on. It might be offensive to some people, but that's the price for freedom of speech.
